Re: Oh Snap… UNM loses to SJSU!!
From a national respect perspective, nobody cares who won the conference tournament, while everyone notices a team winning a tournament game. We've won tons of conference titles over the past 20 years and nobody cares because they always knew we would drop in the first game of the tournament.ineptimusprime wrote: ↑January 15th, 2025, 10:36 amI'd normally agree with Roy on this, but this barely dented UNM's NET ranking (a 1-point road loss) and put us a game up in the conference title race. The UNM loss is probably neutral to us so long as UNM doesn't suffer more of these. NCAA Tourney wins are really cool, but so are outright conference titles.Aggie84025 wrote: ↑January 15th, 2025, 10:33 amI agree with your points but anytime their are Lobos tears I will take it even if it not good for the conference.Roy McAvoy wrote: ↑January 15th, 2025, 7:56 amGuys this isn’t a good thing. In fact it’s quite bad. It lowers the chances UNM is a Quad 1 game and increases the chances the MWC is a 2 bid league.
Also, just don't really care how many MW teams make the dance this year. Whether UNM is a First Four team or an NIT team likely will not impact our seeding much as long as we take care of our business.

I honestly think the environment will be the same regardless. Maybe the hype would have been a bit better, but we really brought the crowd against Bosie and I wouldn't expect any less for UNM.ToastedFlakes52 wrote: ↑January 15th, 2025, 12:48 pmI wish New Mexico had won, I’m a fan of more quality teams and more big games. Atmosphere at the Spectrum on Feb 1st would’ve been off the charts if both teams were undefeated in conf play (and if unm had gotten ranked somehow). It will still be electric of course, but maybe not quite as great.
Wouldn’t mind seeing the lobos make the big dance either.

Re: Oh Snap… UNM loses to SJSU!!
This is basically where I am at. I don't really care how many NCAA bids the MWC gets any more because USU will get $0 of that money anyway. And New Mexico's chances of getting an at large bid are slim, especially after last night's loss. I want USU to get another conference championship. Right now, Bart Torvik's algorithm says that USU and UNM are the two heavy favorites for the MWC regular season title. Therefore I want UNM to lose because it helps USU.AggiePT wrote: ↑January 15th, 2025, 10:41 amI was happy to see the Lobos lose. I want to raise a trophy at the end of the season. I want the 1 seed in the the MWC tourney. New Mexico will be tough to beat twice this season, so them getting a loss gives us the edge. Yes, wins in the Big Dance are huge and might matter more. But conference championships are also huge!

Even after the latest loss, UNM is still projected as one of the last four in.
