Vaughn Weems Northern Idaho Juco

Post by hipsterdoofus21 » January 6th, 2025, 12:40 pm

Watched this guy play against CSI on Saturday and came away very impressed. He's averaging 29 pts a game but is under the radar (for now) playing up in the Idaho panhandle. He's a legit 6'4-5", strong, quick, athletic, and can shoot from anywhere. Good on defense as well. He has very little help on the roster but never appears to be forcing the offense. He just about beat CSI on his own. His game reminds me of Ian's. Great elevation on his shot.

Highlights on the X link below.

Speaking of CSI, can this coach break into access to recruit there better?

Calhoun was at the SLCC vs. Snow BB game last week. Not sure who he wanted to see but it was a good game

CSI's team this year doesn't have anyone I'd want to see in an Aggie uniform, but from what I've told the CSI coach hates USU and refuses to give our coaches the time of day and he actively steers players to other MW schools.

Maybe some guesses

Xavier Edmunds?? Looks like committed to TCU, not sure if signed. Interior guy with a lot of offers

or

Isaac Finlinson / Isaac Garrett both interior guys at Snow

That cross-over and dunk on the second highlight of the second clip was eye-catching. That was a quick move into the lane. Poor help defense, but a very quick move.

Calhoun has mentioned talking to the Snow college coach about a player. My guess would be Isaac Finlinson

Hopefully they watch Northern Idaho play against either SLCC or Snow before he commits to NMSU or Stetson.

How have we not offered Vaughn Weems??

29 ppg with 55% FG & 40% from the 3? 9.4 rebounds per game? Seems like a no brainer.

Is this still the case? I know a few years ago the head coach at CSI was Ryan Lundgren, he's a Leon Rice protégé, so that wouldn't surprise me. Maybe the current coach is from the same tree?

EDIT: looking a the current coach, Jeff Reinert, he played college ball at New Mexico, and has coaching stops at ybu and what was uvsc, no wonder he hates the Aggies!

It’s amazing to me that any coach at the high school or JC level would deny the young men under their watch ANY opportunities to further their careers. If a coach is letting personal feelings get in the way of creating connections with the next level. It’s pure selfishness.

The Weems guy is interesting, but another guard is the furthest thing from a roster need right now if we do actually get Drake and Deyton for another season, Mason and Jordy stay, and Boe is expected to contribute day 1. If some of these dudes leave, that changes things!

I suppose he brings some more versatility because he’s bigger guard like Akanno? I think we need a rim protector more than anything.

I say all this fully expecting it’ll be nigh impossible to retain Mason this offseason. He’d likely be the #1 player in the country in the portal this offseason (at least Top 5).

That can't possibly be true -: he's not a BYU player or recruit

I’ll bet anything there’s at least 1 guy that plays Guard or Wing that won’t be back next season.

The CSI thing is 100% true. There is also a prominent in-state AAU program that won't deal with the Aggies.

He looked good defensively. Had some steals, deflections, and shut down his man. Rebounds well too, averaging 9 a game.
