Conference scheduling

Post by SpectrumMagic » January 5th, 2025, 10:13 am

One thing I have noticed is as I remember, in the past teams would typically go on 2 game road trips.

some examples
CSU-AF
Nevada-UNLV
USU-BSU

Teams would have a week at home and week on road for most part. Now teams have a road game and then home game in a week for the most part.

Seems disjointed. Will think the deeper teams will benefit and may lead to more upsets?

The MW hasn't ever really done the whole travel partner thing. It seems to be something that smaller conferences (Big West, WCC, WAC) to save money on travel. For as long as I can remember though the MW tries to do 1 home and 1 road game each week.

We seem to have lucked out in our conference scheduling. We got SDSU and Nevada during Christmas break. We also only had Fresno at home during Christmas break.

We caught a huge break to have two of the hardest road games out of the way during the break and we’ve put ourselves in the driver's seat by winning them. The Pit and Extra Mile will be tough. The Thomas and Mack and Mobey are always hard places to win. As we saw last night, any team in this league can win anywhere so it’s up to us now to keep the advantage.

I also love that our 3 biggest home games this year (Boise, UNM, SDSU) all fall on a Saturday, so they will all likely have sellout crowds.
