The scrimmage result is a major bummer without more context. But remember, we beat Weber St. handily and we all witnessed that. Maybe Oregon is really good. There just isn’t enough to go on to get too high or low right now.

We probably won’t know much until we play Iowa.

Given the other thread, I am not to worried about the secret scrimmage one way or the other.

I think Oregon will make a run in March/April.

Does anyone know how Gateretse has been performing in practice? I’m a bit concerned based on what I saw from him in the Weber State game—he didn’t seem to show much intensity or physicality. If that level of effort is what we can expect, I’d rather see Templin start.

Did they have another secret scrimmage today? Was it worse than the Oregon scrimmage?

Utah State was picked #4 in this MW Conference Preview. No players selected for any preseason awards but does highlight the consistency of the Aggies roster and has positive comments on the new transfer point guard from Queens, Deyton Albury from Queens. Has a projected starting lineup for the Aggies and the other teams in the conference as well.

I have seen this team play the Weber State exhibition game and watched them in practice, and have friends who have watched them in practice throughout the summer. They have reported that this team will be faster than any Aggie team we have had since Rod Tueller's "run, dribble and giggle" days in the 1980's. Those teams regularly scored 85-90 points a night-- but didn't particularly know or care what defense was.

Imagine an Aggie team that can score 85-90 points a night, but plays defense like Stew Morrill's teams. Thats what we could be looking at this season. Thats why Gateretse is so important-- his speed and atleticism are tailor-made for this offense and defense. Having said that I think Carson Templin will be invaluable in offering a distinct change of pace in the middle, as well as being a guy who can come in for Johnson or Gateretse and rebound, dive on the floor for loose balls and, with Issac Davis, provide some physicality when needed. Ten guys will play a lot and Carson and Issac will be in that mix.

Greg Grant has famously said that anyone who played under Rod still has three yeas of defensive eligibility. Thanks for the report, AF.

Look for the "second" team to feature Jordy Barnes at PG and Deyton Albury as the 2-guard.

I'm interested if Calhoun plays hockey line change and lineup games early, but realizes by December he has 8 solid players that need to take the majority of the minutes to win in the MW.

Youngstown St ran 10 players early in the season, but tightened up to 8 players (sometimes 7) pretty quick.

Remember when Craig Smith ran Crew Ainge out for like 10 games as starting PG? The true tryouts are starting Wednesday night

Barnes must not be your typical walk-on. I must say I was impressed by his poise and vision and handle in the limited minutes he played in the Weber game.

Gotta say, I am impressed with Barnes for setting aside what I am sure was major disappointment when he didn’t end up with a scholarship offer here, coming to Logan anyway, working hard, and seemingly earning a role as a true freshman on a team with tons of guard depth. Well done!

Jordy is the real deal and will be an Aggie legend if he stays. We have some great young talent and I hope we can keep them here under Calhoun.

Don't we currently still have an open scholarship for this year? Any chance it goes to Jordy?
