We are one of the first teams to release a whole non-conference schedule. Give Calhoun and his staff credit for being on top of it.

Nice schedule. Some nice getting-to-know-you early season tests for the remade roster, some potential Q1 games (Iowa, NIT Tip-off, St. Marys, mayybeee USF). Always happy to welcome in-state teams to the Spectrum - hello Utah Tech and Westminster - but disappointed not to see Weber. I've always liked that rivalry, and I hope we're not big-timing them the way the other teams down south are big-timing us.

Do we have a contract for the 11/9 TBA game and just can't release it yet? Or still looking but committed to that date?

Solid schedule for a team with a new coach and coaching scheme. Like the home games against Montana and South Florida. Overall solid job of filling out the schedule. Interested to see who the 11/9 game is. I sure hope it is not a D2 school.

I like this schedule. With such a new team, I like having a few lighter games early like this. Really wish we were in a better MTE, but love the Iowa, St. Mary’s and USF games.

I was told we had an opponent lined up (Quad 3) for the Nov. 9 game, but they backed out. I'd imagine we replace that with a similar caliber opponent.

There’s 2 diff brackets in it now, and we got lumped in the “mid major” side.
Wichita State somehow got in the other one despite being (I can't express myself without swearing) for a few years

Need some clarification:

The original post about an MTE said:

NEWS: The ESPN Events Invite in Orlando will include Florida, Minnesota, Wake Forest, and Wichita State, per sources. Two-game bracket.

ESPN will host a second event in Orlando featuring Northern Iowa, North Texas, Utah State, and St. Bonaventure. Two-game bracket.

No reference whatsoever about NIT.

Has the tournament name changed or has USU changed tournaments?

I wish the dates weren't so close to Thanksgiving, but a cool midwest double with the men playing Iowa in KC on Friday 11/22 and the women playing Nebraska-Omaha in Omaha on Tuesday 11/26.

That is a good question. I don't have any inside details but I would guess its on USU's side of not wanting to play and not Weber's. We should be playing that game annually. It is a solid rivalry and Weber has a good program.

This pi$$es me off, doing the same thing to them as the other 2 prick schools to the south do to us. For round ball, there’s no good reason why those rivalries aren’t played every year. They’re good games, against good teams, and the fans want it. Most of them.

It really makes zero sense. I remember the days when we played all the instate schools at home and on the road in the same year. If we were to do that more interest would be generated locally, rivalries would be formed, travel costs would be minimal, and schedules would be solid for all involved. No need to bring south Florida in when you could have Weber state. Dumb

Weber State has never finished in the top 100 of the NET, and they have finished in the top 150 of the NET only once. I hate letting regional rivalries die, but unless they can start fielding better teams, my enthusiasm for playing them is significantly reduced. I would definitely rather play a USF team that just won the AAC.

Having said that, if we are playing home and homes with any mediocre/bad teams with no regional interest, I would rather play Weber State. But we have done a good job of scheduling home and homes with other good non-major teams, and as long as we can continue to do that, sadly I prefer that over Weber State.

Using the Quad system to get an idea
23-24 NET
Q1- St. Mary's, San Diego State (2x), New Mexico (2x), Boise State (2x), Nevada, and Colorado State - 9 Q1 games
Games that were close to Q1- UNLV, Iowa, Nevada, and Colorado State
Q2- UNLV, Iowa, Nevada, Colorado State, and NIT MTE teams (North Texas and St. Bonaventure)- 5 or 6 Q Q2 games
Games that were close to Q2- UNLV, South Florida, NIT MTE team (Northern Iowa), and Wyoming
Q3- Charlotte, South Florida, Montana, Wyoming (2x), UNLV, Fresno St., and NIT MTE team (Northern Iowa) - 7 or 8 games
San Jose State was close to being Q3.
Q4 - Alcorn State, Fresno St., Air Force (2x), San Jose State (2x), and Utah Tech- 7 games
1 D2 game
Comparing last regular season
23-24 regular season- 8 Q1 games, 5 Q2 games, 7 Q3 games, 9 Q4 games, and 2 D2 games

All of this is pre-MWC tournament NET ranking numbers
