Re: Josh Uduje
It's his last year and he wants to play overseas. He NEEDS as much court time as he can get to get his numbers up so there will be interest in him. He's a good kid and we loaded up on 2's and 3's. I don't blame him. He has long-term goals at stake.

Re: Josh Uduje
I was worried something like this was going to happen with all the guards added to the roster.
I’m not sure if Calhoun signing a bunch of guards triggered this, or if Calhoun caught wind of this and then signed a bunch of guards. But I’d definitely rather have Josh than either Allen or Housley, so I really hope it’s the latter.

I love watching him play for us, but looking at the 2 and 3 position I was wondering where he was going to find his playing time.

I don’t blame him. I would just rather have him as a proven commodity and team guy rather than loading up his position with unknowns so much that he bails.

Re: Josh Uduje
What 3s did we load up on? I see one and that’s Anderson. We’ve loaded up on 1s and 2s to my eye. The hole in our roster is at the 3/4 to my eye (assuming Carter Welling commits. If not, we have a hole at the 5 too).

Re: Josh Uduje
We added point and combo guards. Josh played the 2-3, not the 1-2.
I'm guessing we're in the market for a wing now.

Re: Josh Uduje
Those 2 are both point guards. Josh plays the 2/3 spots. I don't see those 2 taking minutes away from Josh. Ian/Mason returning certainly affects his minutes but don't see the PG signings taking much away from Josh. I would have guessed he still would get 20ish minutes a game next year. Josh is a good guy and wish him well.ineptimusprime wrote: ↑May 2nd, 2024, 11:21 amI was worried something like this was going to happen with all the guards added to the roster.

You can play Mason, Ian, and Tucker Anderson at the 2 and 3.3rdGenAggie wrote: ↑May 2nd, 2024, 11:26 amWe added point and combo guards. Josh played the 2-3, not the 1-2.

Re: Josh Uduje
Martinez returning and also signing Tucker, a long 3pt shooting wing/forward, is probably what drove Uduje to the portal. His minutes were diminishing by each signing. I love the guy and wish he would have stayed and played a support role on this team but I don't blame him for leaving in search of a bigger role. Perhaps we will also sign the Diop NBA Africa guy, who was a very intriguing wing.

Re: Josh Uduje
One of those three already have to come off the bench unless you move Tucker to the 4. In that case Josh becomes the second player off the bench and not the first. I’m sure the Tucker commit is what convinced Josh to leave.aggies22 wrote: ↑May 2nd, 2024, 11:27 amYou can play Mason, Ian, and Tucker Anderson at the 2 and 3.3rdGenAggie wrote: ↑May 2nd, 2024, 11:26 amWe added point and combo guards. Re: Josh Uduje
True, but you ideally would have 4 players for those 2 positions. My ideal now would be to sign a combo forward type that can play some 3-4.aggies22 wrote: ↑May 2nd, 2024, 11:27 amYou can play Mason, Ian, and Tucker Anderson at the 2 and 3.3rdGenAggie wrote: ↑May 2nd, 2024, 11:26 amWe added point and combo guards. Re: Josh Uduje
Bummer. If, as has been reported, Josh's decision hinged on Ian's then I guess this makes sense. If I had to choose between Josh and Ian, I am taking Ian but not because Josh can't play. He is a great player and I think was poised for a big jump this year. Good luck to him, though.

Re: Josh Uduje
I am guessing Tucker would get destroyed against 4 type players in the MWC. Tucker does not have the strength to play down low IMO. He seems like mostly a outside player.EngineeringAggie wrote: ↑May 2nd, 2024, 11:31 amOne of those three already have to come off the bench unless you move Tucker to the 4. Re: Josh Uduje
It's just my opinion but I think that Coach really dropped the ball here. Josh is an elite senior guard winning sixth man of the year last year. He knows the MW and has proven, unlike some of these other recruits, that he can get it done in this league. Bringing in a flurry of guards not only pushed out a fan favorite who is legit as a player but also someone who wanted to be here.

Re: Josh Uduje
Calhoun needs to get Rylan Jones to recruit Achor Achor from Samford. Kid just entered the portal and was awesome last year.
He'll almost for sure go high major, but we should at least take a shot.

Re: Josh Uduje
Uduje is better than Allen and Housley, but I don't see him starting over Martinez/Falslev/Anderson. Maybe he just didn't want another 6th man role...

Re: Josh Uduje
I imagine this has been on Uduje's mind since Ian returned. Going from incumbent/assumed starter at the 3 to looking for 6th man of the year awards again is rough if you want to land a pro contract after this season.
I'm sure Josh is confident he can beat out all the new guys coming in for minutes, but he doesn't really play the point, and at best he's splitting minutes with Ian and Mason. There's always the possibility of an injury or god knows what else putting him in a starting role, but if he can scoop up a starting spot at a peer level school, he positions himself better for pro play next year.

Re: Josh Uduje
Which guards were brought in to replace Josh? Allen and Housely are point guards. Josh plays mostly the 3 with some at the 2. You could argue that Tucker may take some of Josh's minutes but not Allen and Housely. I guess the coach should just bring in scrap players with the rest of the roster.Winning Team wrote: ↑May 2nd, 2024, 11:37 amIt's just my opinion but I think that Coach really dropped the ball here. Re: Josh Uduje
This is how I feel too. I don't think any new guys scared Josh away. I think he was looking at being a 6th man behind Mason/Ian and wanted to start. Wonder if one or more schools offered him a starting gig right before portal closed that was too good to pass up.Aggie84025 wrote: ↑May 2nd, 2024, 12:21 pmWhich guards were brought in to replace Josh?
