One thing that's funny about redshirting players is that in the new era of transfers, while us fans have all the LESS reason to care about keeping a redshirt on a player, in both sports, cause the odds are against them being here by their fifth year and it mattering, so we figure that we might as well burn a kid's freshman year, coaches have all the MORE reason to want to preserve a kid's redshirt because of the ease of taking kids with them to whatever school they end up at, caring if a kid down the road will have a fifth year to use at the school they are at by then, rather it's cause they do good enough to leave a school to get a head job at a more prestigious school or cause things go downhill and they are let go and are a coordinator at a different school.

Well said. At this point there is no point in redshirting anyone unless they are asking for it.
