Jordy Barnes
Reportedly recommitted. Do we have any idea who the guy tweeting this is. It’s the Calhoun guy so I assume its true.

That guy seems to usually get info from here and post it on Twitter, but I hope he's right in this case.

I looked to see if there was anything previously posted on the board, not wanting to make an unnecessary thread, but I wasn't able to find anything. If I missed it that's my bad.

Re: Jordy Barnes
I am still curious if Jordy is coming on an academic Scholarship. Their are scholarships that pays for tuition and room and board and some spending money. For the past year they have used the terminology that he has commited but not signed a an athletic scholarship agreement. Things may have changed but when David Collette was here I was told that he received more benefits from his academic scholarship than his teammates were getting from their athletic scholarships. I believe he would still be able to sign an NIL agreement as a so-called walk-on.

That post was from a week ago. A lot can happen in a week in the portal. Not saying it’s not true, just that after a week you’d probably expect to hear something more concrete.

We've been needing young and, if possible, local guys for program continuity. I like this. No way he'd be able to compete with all these starter quality guys that are incoming. Let him learn for a season as a pwo.

I think that kid from Cedar City got screwed even worse. He saw 4 different coaches at USU before playing a game and then got counseled out by coach no. 4. Talk about wasted years. He got jerked around like no other.YoungBloodAggie wrote: ↑April 30th, 2024, 12:27 pmI wish Jordy would have had more time to find better options. Re: Jordy Barnes
I know my source level is very much “trust me bro..” But my Dad teaches at Olympus High and is good friends with Matt Barnes. He talked with him last week about it and I guess an option they’re seriously considering is going to play for Dave Rice at SLCC, with hopes getting some playing time there would give him a better chance of playing in Logan in a year or two.
Whether he walks on this season or goes to a smaller school to get more playing time, it’s always been his dream to be an Aggie. Hope it all works out for him!

Re: Jordy Barnes
That is actually a really solid option. I would also add I would bet he could get a scholarship at Weber, SUU, UVU or UTU and have the possibility of proving himself.SwaggieAggie wrote: ↑April 30th, 2024, 2:20 pmI know my source level is very much “trust me bro..” But my Dad teaches at Olympus High and is good friends with Matt Barnes. Loyalty is a two way street. I get why kids get yanked around by the process and I also get why they yank schools around by leaving. You cant have it both ways. If you have the right to counsel kids out and cancel scholarships it is hard to be upset when they decide to leave when they decide it is their best move. Same with coaches, they know they can easily be fired for a bad year or two which contributes to them leaving when their stock is high. Hope it works out for Barnes and Grant.

Mid level High School recruits are being squeezed by the portal. Most will have to prove themselves at lower levels or walk on.

I agree. Add on the fact he was injured this year for most of the season, and it’s hard not to feel like he got aome tough breaks.SLB wrote: ↑April 30th, 2024, 2:24 pmI felt bad for Dallin Grant because that was so awkward. Re: Jordy Barnes
I agree. Just watching this kid he would have seemed to be a no brainer 10 years ago. He may or may not have the athleticism for the MW but his basketball IQ and and refined game just scream potential. He's probably boom or bust and unfortunately coaches are understandably hesitant to invest a schollie for 2-3 years only to have the kid either transfer up for Big NIL if he is really breaks out or transfer down for playing time.
Add on to that the pressures Calhoun has here to win now, and the probability that if he does win now he's also headed to pay day gig before Jordy would even really play, and its just kind of an ugly sad system right now. There is just little perceived upside for the coach to offer.

Re: Jordy Barnes
I said this earlier but I'll mention it again here. This will be the last year of COVID seniors. After this year there will be a lot of roster openings and players like Barns that will get squeezed out this year will have more opportunities next year.
I hope he comes to USU, improves his game enough to where he gets lots of minutes and earns a scholarship.

Actually the 2025 season will be the final season for covid. Any player that took a redshirt AFTER the 2020 season has one season remaining. Yes, Karate's "bad boy". Guided by business tycoon Terry Silver and none other than John Kreese, a Vietnam Veteran, patriot and American hero who, in his attempt to give back to his community by mentoring boys into responsible young men by instilling in them, through karate, the discipline and perserverence needed for life, is slandered by a whiny snowflake from Receda and a Japanese agent posing as a maintenance man.Hoot wrote: ↑April 30th, 2024, 2:34 pmWasn’t Matt Barnes the villain in Karate Kid 3?SwaggieAggie wrote: ↑April 30th, 2024, 2:20 pmI know my source level is very much “trust me bro..” But my Dad teaches at Olympus High and is good friends with Matt Barnes.
