Re: Visitors this weekend?
Diop is from Senegal which is a basketball country (tons of players come from Senegal).

Re: Visitors this weekend?
It would be good for the program to start getting players from places like Senegal. There are basketball countries in Africa, and it might get overlooked with the whole transfer portal madness.

Re: Visitors this weekend?
If we can sign Diop and Welling and add a big strong defensive 4 or 5 that can rebound, we will definitely have some depth next year. I don't care what @Real Life Aggie says.
The biggest question for me is how good will we be defensively? I know Falslev, Uduje, and Martinez can play D at the MWC level but what about the others? I believe Templin can and I've seen glimpses of hope from Johnson, but can they stay out of foul trouble?

Love it! Go find high-level talent wherever you can! Did Calhoun travel to Africa? If so, he's putting in the miles!

Welp. Lost out to Fau and Indiana state today in recruiting battles. That hurts a bit.

We would be damn near done recruiting had we stayed in contact with Chris Cox, Terrence Hill, and Kase Wynott.

Had we stayed in contact with Terrence and kase would we have had a good shot? Doesn’t solve our post problem. I personally liked both those players l

Ouch, that hurts. I wonder what the thought process was there? You have three highly touted prospects already committed. Not a huge time investment vs finding new guys.aggies22 wrote: ↑May 5th, 2024, 10:06 amKase absolutely would have.ImportAggie wrote: ↑May 5th, 2024, 12:42 amHad we stayed in contact with Terrence and kase would we have had a good shot? This sucks. Calhoun I assume thought he could get more impact guys in the portal? But at the same time, how many guys is he planning to have on the floor?aggies22 wrote: ↑May 5th, 2024, 10:06 amKase absolutely would have.ImportAggie wrote: ↑May 5th, 2024, 12:42 amHad we stayed in contact with Terrence and kase would we have had a good shot? Gotta fill out the roster with someone, even if young talent development doesn't seem to be the mantra

Re: Visitors this weekend?
Calhoun made it clear in an interview that he wants to get old and stay old. Makes sense in this environment but surely you can save a couple of spots for guys like Wynott and Cox.

Re: Visitors this weekend?
Hurts a lot and hard to make sense of for me. It is fantastic to see how they are keeping the core from last year together but most of the other recruiting is puzzling. Maybe I am too biased to begin with because of our last 4 head coach hires, this one had me the least optimistic.OrangeCountyAggie wrote: ↑May 5th, 2024, 10:13 amOuch, that hurts. Re: Visitors this weekend?
Man I agree on the puzzling part. I’ll trust the coach initially and there’s so much we don’t know past the surface. But on the surface that part of it is very puzzling.gomretat wrote: ↑May 6th, 2024, 8:30 amHurts a lot and hard to make sense of for me. Re: Visitors this weekend?
It’s a damn shame, and quite puzzling, to not at least have pursued Kase and tried to keep him here. Someone that is that prolific of a scorer, could contribute on this team. From the way it sounds that Calhoun likes to run and gun and shoot 3’s, he could have fit right in.aggies22 wrote: ↑May 5th, 2024, 10:06 amKase absolutely would have.ImportAggie wrote: ↑May 5th, 2024, 12:42 amHad we stayed in contact with Terrence and kase would we have had a good shot? I've been told that shooting guard Dexter Akanno from Oregon State is currently on campus.

If we get Dexter and Josh goes to Oregon St, we can just pretend we traded them for each other.

He looks like a great player. Not sure why he'd come to such a loaded roster though. I bet he goes with UNLV.

Dexter Akanno may have the same mindset as Taylor Funk.aggies22 wrote: ↑May 9th, 2024, 11:24 amUNLV can pay him a LOT more.hipsterdoofus21 wrote: ↑May 9th, 2024, 11:20 amHe looks like a great player. Not sure why he'd come to such a loaded roster though. I bet he goes with UNLV.
Akanno's 4 seasons

3-28 Oregon State
11-21 Oregon State
13-19 Oregon State

Re: Visitors this weekend?
Maybe, but the NIL landscape is vastly different now than when Funk transferred. Akanno might also realize this is last chance to make money off his talents.SLB wrote: ↑May 9th, 2024, 11:31 amDexter Akanno may have the same mindset as Taylor Funk.aggies22 wrote: ↑May 9th, 2024, 11:24 amUNLV can pay him a LOT more.hipsterdoofus21 wrote: ↑May 9th, 2024, 11:20 amHe looks like a great player. Akanno is a 6'5" 210 guard.
Calhoun probably sees him as someone that can rotate to different positions with his speed and size.
Brito played guard and shadow at forward, and Brito was 6'6" 205

Re: Visitors this weekend?
Maybe Akanno wants to win a national championship.
I think we all have a notion that Falslev and Martinez are penciled in as starters but seems like Coach Cal hasn’t promised anything to anyone and is just gathering the best players he can and will let them all battle it out. Akanno could very well earn a starting spot or 6th man role and play well over 20 mpg. Would be a huge get to nab this guy in addition to the Isaac Davis commitment. Very solid depth.

Re: Visitors this weekend?
is this Akanno? sure looks like it to me. if so, I can 100% confirm he is on campus today. source level: saw him w my own eyes AND snapped this pic (on the sly). (anything untoward about posting this? public figure on public property, right? someone let me know if i should take it down...)
Many of you will know exactly where this pic was taken. Cache Valley is showing off a bit today and whoever it was seemed to be in awe. Smart move by the staff to bring recruits to the edge of the bench like that and let them take in the valley and the wellsvilles in all their glory. we don't need no NIL...that view functions just like a frickin' tractor beam. hell it got me here (and back!)...
