Re: Schedule updates
I'm ok mixing these low teams with the good teams. Last seasons OOC was pretty perfect for our team. Wouldn't mind 1 more Q1/Q2 game, but you can only control so much

If these two games are replacing the pointless and stupid NAIA or D3 games we play, I am all for it. If we're playing non-counter games too I am out on these games. RUTS the hell out of these two and game the NET!

Re: Schedule updates
Ultimately the Aggies are not going to get very many high profile games in Logan. We will occasionally get some but a lot teams will not want to go to Logan. I don't want to see any NAIA or D2 schools scheduled unless just an exhibition.

Re: Schedule updates
Agreed. The committee does not like to see non-D1 games on a team's schedule. If we need a certain number of home games, I would much rather have a buy game against a D1 bottom feeder than a non-D1 opponent. I don't love the fact that we are effectively big timing Utah Tech while complaining about BYU/Utah doing the same to us, but it is what it is. (I would say that a critical difference is the fact that it would help BYU/Utah to play USU most years. The only reason they don't do it is because they are scared to lose to an MWC team.)Aggie84025 wrote: ↑April 17th, 2024, 10:14 amUltimately the Aggies are not going to get very many high profile games in Logan. Re: Schedule updates
I am 100% in favor of it when they are good. But if they are sub-150 in NET as they are currently, I'm significantly less enthusiastic. Playing Q3/Q4 games in OOC can basically only hurt you because a win counts for nothing and a loss is devastating. If they are in the top 135 and we can at least get a Q2 game when we play on the road, I'm okay with that. But if both legs are going to be Q3/Q4, then I'd rather focus on scheduling top WCC/A10/MVC/AAC teams.

I don't care about quads when you can have FUN playing against regional opponents that I care about. Top teams don't come to Logan. Not sure why people think they will. So playing on the road against a sub-200 UVU or Weber State team would be what you call fun?sam tingey wrote: ↑April 17th, 2024, 1:53 pmI don't care about quads when you can have FUN playing against regional opponents that I care about. I'm also completely fine with playing either of those teams when they're competitive. But both have been super up and down lately.

Re: Schedule updates
Yes, that's why I said it. I find it as interesting for us to play Weber and uvu as much as I would like to play Utah in football even though they are better than us. Don't get mad at me, just look at the series record. Regional games are fun.shoresy wrote: ↑April 17th, 2024, 2:25 pmSo playing on the road against a sub-200 UVU or Weber State team would be what you call fun?sam tingey wrote: ↑April 17th, 2024, 1:53 pmI don't care about quads when you can have FUN playing against regional opponents that I care about. I'm not mad at you, I just strongly disagree. I'd rather play a home-and-home with a competitive A-10 team like Saint Louis than play in Orem against a UVU team that went 16-16 last year.sam tingey wrote: ↑April 17th, 2024, 2:28 pmYes, that's why I said it. Re: Schedule updates
With the amount of players transferring teams every year now it will be really hard to judge which teams will be good next season. I expect a lot of movement year to year in teams being ranked in the 100s to the 200s.StanfordAggie wrote: ↑April 17th, 2024, 1:09 pmI am 100% in favor of it when they are good. Final KenPom results for last season show UVU at #162 and St. Louis at #199.
Every year is a crap shoot outside of maybe 25 or so teams.

Re: Schedule updates
If I didn't care about the selection committee, I would love to play as many regional opponents as possible. But to me, making the tournament should be the #1 goal when we schedule OOC games. And Q3/Q4 games can only hurt you as far as the selection committee is concerned.sam tingey wrote: ↑April 17th, 2024, 1:53 pmI don't care about quads when you can have FUN playing against regional opponents that I care about. And while I agree that top P5 teams will not come to Logan, we have gotten some good non-P5 teams in the Spectrum. St. Mary's was a #5 seed this year, and they have played in Logan on multiple occasions recently. The top non-P5 leagues have many of the same scheduling difficulties that we do, so many of them are willing to play home and homes with us. There's no reason we can't continue to do that.

Re: Schedule updates
I want to see long standing rivalries continue. We have a long history of playing against Weber State, Utah, and BYU. We don’t have a long history against UVU and Utah Tech… and I’m unsure we have much history against UVSC or Dixie State either.

Re: Schedule updates
I think the Utah Tech game is a buy game because we need some more home games, and I'm fine with that. If we are going to do a buy game, I would prefer Utah Tech (or some other regional foe) to a place like Alcorn State. And I would strongly prefer any D1 opponent to a non-D1 opponent.
