Dang. I was all on board with Todd Simon. I guess it's wait and see with Tod K & what kind of team he can build.

22 years as a head coach and no tourney appearances. How exciting!

I also would’ve preferred Simon I think but hopefully the AD knows better than me. (They probably do)

I like it. He had a very talented roster this year, hopefully he brings at least 3-4 guys along

I would have rather went with Andy Hill over Tod K.

This is one of the best mid-major jobs in the country. Just ask the last 3 coaches. Certainly there were significantly better names in the running right?

Pretty disappointed personally.

Tod is a great coach in the regular season as shown from his regular season titles but not fared well in conference tournaments or NIT. Hopefully at USU he can get over that hump. For sure a different hire than our last 3 as he is on the downward side in terms of how many years he probably has left in coaching. Excited to see how it turns out.

I'm confused why people were excited about Simon, who also has zero tournament appearances, and less wins over a shorter career than Kowalcyzk. I, for one, think that this is a fantastic hire.

What are the red flags you see? Tod has been a head coach for 22 years and has over 400 career wins. The guy can obviously coach. Certainly not a sexy up an coming pick but its not like the guy has not had success.

We finally get that elusive NCAA win and follow that by hiring an almost 58 year old coach with 0 NCAA appearances in his 22 years of being a HC. I’m not sure I agree with this one after 3 amazing hires.

I think that is a fair statement, that was one of the things that interested me about Simon since he would have been well connected to the culture here as well as the recruiting landscape of the west. Obviously Tod knows the midwest which has some of the best talent in the country but it will be interesting to see if he can get the mid west talent to logan.

Did Sabau know him from her days in Ohio? I’m always concerned when a hire seems to have been made due to a personal history with an individual. There had to have been 4-5 coaches with legitimate interest that would’ve been much more exciting than this.

Lack of post season success, age, softer defensive style as others have pointed out, lack of Utah connections.

Maybe they’re more “orange” than red. Maybe I got too adjusted to the idea of it being Simon and all his Utah connections, including offers to our current players

I think this is a good hire. I would have been fine with Simon, as well.

Haven't most people been saying it's the program, not the coach? Just plug in somebody with prior head coaching experience and we'll be fine? I hope we can keep the pattern (minus the coach leaving in shorter times).

Not sure if this is a fair comparison, but idk, kinda get similar vibes to when we hired Blake Anderson. Not a hire that you're going to get hyped up about, no real connections to Utah, but feels pretty safe since they've been doing it for a while. A lot of wins at a smaller mid major, got a couple of conference championships, but nothing too major that's going to generate a lot of attention or excitement.

You always want to raise the bar and expectations, and our last three coaches have been to an NCAA tournament which he never has. Maybe with additional resources and being in the MWC he can elevate us to that next step, but just making the tournament should be the standard here now.
