Great Osobor Appreciation
Incredible season for Great! Few players have made such an impact and been this fun to watch in one season!
If he doesn't go to the NBA I hope he sticks around and becomes an Aggie legend.
(I'm assuming players do in-fact peruse this board).

Agreed. The offense hummed when it ran though Osobor.

Re: Great Osobor Appreciation
He was amazing and fun to watch! Very glad he followed Danny here.
I'd love to have any of Great, Ian, Mason, Josh, Isaac, Carson, Max, and/or Javon back next year. Whoever decides to stay has a chance to be the "face" of the program going into next year. Hope to have at least a few of them back, and very grateful they each gave us their all this year! It was an unforgettable season.
If any of them read this, THANK YOU!

Most skilled big we've had at USU since Tai? A pleasure to watch him play. Would love to have him another year in Logan. (No more 3s though please, unless shot clock is at 1 lol)

Great has amazing agility and quickness for his size. If he gets a mid-range jumper like Ladee and gets his free throw percentage in the mid to high 70s, he will be unstoppable. It was amazing to have watched Great and this entire team this season. It was special!!!

Re: Great Osobor Appreciation
This team has been such a joy to watch this season. One of the things that was so satisfying about the TCU game was seeing everyone show what they can do. Most games we would have a few of the guys play well and carry the team but in that game it was a total team win. Great played very well and scored inside and created space for shooters. Darius controlled the pace of the entire game, played great defense and hit some huge buckets. Ian had a great game from start to finish, both offensively and defensively. Mason had some great drives and that interception on the inbounds pass. Josh had that huge block (followed up by Johnson's block) and scored a couple of buckets. Sakho gave us a great boost. Javon hit that three pointer to help us come back in the first half. And Isaac played the best game I've ever seen him play. If someone wanted to know about our team this year I would just tell them to watch that game.

I enjoyed watching Great this year. I hope to see him in front of the Hurd next year! He reminds me of Karl Malone! Many don’t know this but Malone and Stockton played some games in the spectrum with the Jazz. Watching Great and Brown reminded me of those two legends! Come back Great! We love you and will make big signs for you. USU offers a GREAT path to the NBA! It’s yours for the taking baby!

I don't remember the exact year, but I remember my dad taking us to a Jazz game in the spectrum. I think it was in the mid 80s. Frank Layden was the coach.. I remember thinking he was a big guy. I think the Jazz were struggling the first few years in Utah and they had them play in different arenas around to try and drum up interest.OrangeCountyAggie wrote: ↑March 28th, 2024, 8:51 amReally? Re: Great Osobor Appreciation
Great was really fun to watch and pretty hard for other teams to gameplan for. Even if they double-teamed him, he'd still find a way to score or find the open guy. Plus, we've historically either had some slower bigs or undersized bigs who get pushed around. Great stands out as someone who is deceptively quick, could knock people around and draws an insane amount of fouls. He's an Aggie legend!

Re: Great Osobor Appreciation
Great is loved by all of Aggie Nation. He has the opportunity to be legendary if he stays. He may not be loved as much by any other fan base if he leaves. This is his home away from home. He can also achieve a goal of playing in the NBA if he continues to work hard and if that is what he wants.

I think the most unappreciated part of Great’s game is how he runs the floor as a big. It helps that DB was able to see that and get him the ball for his efforts.

Re: Great Osobor Appreciation
If I'm Osobor, my priorities are:
1. Getting drafted this year.
2. Making it to the NBA next year.
3. Getting as much money as I can now.
4. Enjoying my last year of college.
Right now, USU probably falls in the number 4 category. But assuming number 1 doesn't happen, if coach Calhoun can convince him USU gives him the best chance of being drafted based on playing style/development then reasons 2 and 4 are better than reason 3. Any money he lost out on this year, could be made up in the NBA.

Re: Great Osobor Appreciation
It sounds like Great has been trying to develop a three point shot. Obviously Sprink didn’t want him to shoot many threes this year. Maybe Calhoun gives him a good opportunity to shoot some threes? I mean, you do what you gotta do to win, but that might be a selling point. If Great can hit threes at a 35% clip he’s going to be a lottery pick.OrangeCountyAggie wrote: ↑April 19th, 2024, 11:08 amIf I'm Osobor, my priorities are:

Re: Great Osobor Appreciation
Honestly, he should shoot more 3s. It would really open up the offense and dare teams to double team him up top leaving Fish or a wing player open.
I never understood why Queta didn't either. Both of them have a nice shooting stroke.

Re: Great Osobor Appreciation
So if you’re the coach and you thought a promise to Great of shooting threes would help keep him here, what would you promise ? (And I’m not comparing 4 shots a game to big$$$. This is just food for thought).
For instance “we can offer you the best chance to get to NBA because we will focus our game around you and I can see that including 4 threes a game”.
I can see the other team members being disappointed that they are getting shorted….
