Two more
Two others to be considered. (They may have already been mentioned, and if so I am sorry. I don’t see everything on this board. )
Two guys I would like to see on the list. Madsen , CAL and before that SUU. And Pope, BYU.
They are really good coaches. Great recruiters. From Utah, not too old. Would love to coach at Utah State (Pope doesn’t like BYU which is right up our alley,) Madsen would love to move back to Utah from the dumpster fire in CA
I would love to have either one.

Re: Two more
Madsen was at UVU before Cal. I'd love to have him as a coach but he is 1 year into a big contract with a $5M buyout.
Pope is an (I can't express myself without swearing). The only reason I'd want him would be to see the look on BYU fans faces if we poached their coach.

I don’t care if we lose every game. If we take Pope it would be the best hire ever. Can you imagine their board?

You are right, and I knew that. Madsen was my hero when at UVU by beatingBYU twice in two years. I don’t know how SUU got in there. I've talked to a few people that have worked with him behind the scenes and none of them have had much positive to say about him. They say he's very arrogant and extremely difficult to work with.

Re: Two more
But who would they get? Its not like they have a lot to choose from. Madsen I guess. Leaving BYU is one of those things that would even be worth a pay cut (we probably would pay just as good). Kind of like factoring the cost of living because their is a huge (shall we say non-financial) cost to living in Provo and going to that campus every day.kofdog wrote: ↑March 26th, 2024, 4:34 pmThey wouldn't melt down....they'd say they are glad we took him, the Cougars need a better coach then him...sloppy seconds type convos haha.CacheAggie wrote: ↑March 26th, 2024, 4:31 pmI don't really want Pope, but I would take him just to watch the Cougarboard meltdown!

Madsen just signed a two year extension through 2030. Can he really be a serious candidate?

Re: Two more
Really?? Pope sort of makes some sense. He can recruit better athletes here than at byu, the pay might be similar or slightly better and USU has proven to be a springboard. He might actually be a better coach than hes shown without the restrictions of byu.aggies22 wrote: ↑March 26th, 2024, 4:27 pmFunny you should bring those two up.......mcaggie1 wrote: ↑March 26th, 2024, 4:23 pmTwo others to be considered. Re: Two more
I think it is VERY unlikely but I could maybe see some scenario where pope has been trying to get out of Provo for years without any takers. Then he sees three guys cime and go from USU in the time he has been trying to leave BYU, with the last one getting the job he wanted. In that case leaving Provo for Logan may start to seem attractive. Esspecially if byu is underpayment like they are rumored too.
It would be hilarious if it happened.

Agreed but that might be more personal based. Every utah kid who shows up on byu campus thinks they're the next jimmer.

Re: Two more
This is not meant to be anti LDS. But I think the only BB coach that would be happy in Logan would have to be LDS. Past three coaches seem to have made that pretty clear. Without really saying it openly.....but certainly my conversations with them leave me little doubt.

I doubt that. Stew wasn't LDS (I don't think), Smith loved it here. Sprinkle was barely here plus is from Montana and is familiar with LDS culture.Agezzz wrote: ↑March 26th, 2024, 4:53 pmThis is not meant to be anti LDS. Re: Two more
He is definitely LDS, although I am not sure how active he is/was, so I don't think religion was the reason he stayed in Logan for so long. I think it was a combination of a desire to be close to his mom and the fact that he hated losing so he liked being a big fish in a small pond.OrangeCountyAggie wrote: ↑March 26th, 2024, 4:55 pmNonsense, Stew wasn't LDS (I don't think).Agezzz wrote: ↑March 26th, 2024, 4:53 pmThis is not meant to be anti LDS.
