A secondary good thing about FINALLY getting the first round win

Post by GameFAQSAggie » March 26th, 2024, 2:29 pm

One secondary good thing about finally getting a first round win is that we can have confidence that we can see our team have an occasional hiccup debacle of a game and not freak out thinking it's the end of the world. Ineptimusprime pointed out that part of the reason why there was so most hand wringing over the Colorado State debacle was that our program was in need of at least a round of 32 appearance, and seeing us play like we did at CSU caused us to freak out thinking "Here we go again, This is how the NCAA game will turn out."

But now that we have had a season that had as much lows of losses as this one had, but then had it capped off with at least a first round win, we can now in the future, when, and it's not if but WHEN, we are having a season that is going great and we slip up looking poorly in a game occasionally, we can freak out less thinking it's not the end of the world. Even prior to this year, I tried to hold on to the fact that even the team that beat Ohio State ALSO lost by 15 to Long Beach State. And the team that only lost to Kansas by 3 also lost some games to bad teams, some by double digits and a few at home. But now hopefully, we can remember that the team that beat TCU ALSO had a 20 point loss to CSU and a double digit home loss to Nevada.

The principle can hold true regardless of what players are on next year's team. Even if it's not next year, we can remember this when we are having a year which could be down the road that is going great until one debacle of a game against a conference foe, and especially not freak out if we are still in good position to be in the tournament like the case even AFTER we lost to CSU this year. And there will be years where it is more worth freaking out about a loss being a bubble team and needing a win to stay in good position.

Getting the NCAA win after ALSO needing overtime to beat 9th place Fresno State twice is something else to be remembered.
