Final game observation

Post by SLB » March 24th, 2024, 3:06 pm

The refs took away a good basketball game. Started out as an even game then the refs completely took over the game then it went from there to a blowout loss to Purdue.
It was a great season, and now we wait and see what happens in the offseason that starts now.

the refs tipped the scales early on and completely deflated us, they let them play and called us for every ticky tacky "foul" there was. It was obvious. But yea, Purdue is all that and then some.

Let’s not start this again. We lost because we played poorly against a superior team. The refs missed a few. The Boilermaker fans were booing the refs on plenty of calls.

We just fell apart.

I would have been okay with the Purdue going over the back for offensive rebounds if USU would have been allowed to be just as physical, which they weren't. Those first ten minutes were frustrating to watch and it was obvious the game wasn't being called evenly.

This is a good take.

We would’ve had to have a perfect game and it looked interesting early on.

Nothing to hang our heads over. That’s a good team with consistency and a lot of NIL. It happens.

Game was even until we had to put in players who either rarely play, or haven't played since December, twelve minutes into the game due to our two bigs getting four fouls between them in the first five minutes of the game.

First half ended with thirteen fouls called on USU, five on Purdue.

Purdue is 10 points better than we are, but the foul discrepancy caused the blowout.

We made some dumb fouls early. We did panic and we were selfish in our offense, but certainly the refs didn't help early.

That said, Purdue is the better team. We were outmatched at every position, almost.

Darius Brown and Great Osobor proved to me that they can play on any Big 10 team and start.

They definitely outclassed us. But I think there was some running up of the score.

I know that’s the most sour grapes ever but still.

I missed the first half as I was at church. I watched just a little of the second half and had the same observation, so I shut it off assuming that it was one of those games. I'm looking forward to AI reffing games in the future and at least calling a game evenly if not perfectly.

Is there any irony in the fact that we matched up against the team with the tallest player in the league when we are no longer the tallest team in the country?

You can't expect guys at this level to pass up wide open shots. That's what they are conditioned to do - they just hit them an a very high rate. I don't think they were intentionally running up the score - just playing hard. As a player I would much rather play against people playing hard than clowning around and toying with an inferior team. That is immasculating.

1H scores:

Purdue 49, USU 33

Duke 47, JMU 25.

Thanks to JMU for not making us the biggest 1h deficit of the day lol

Fans will still (I can't express myself without swearing) and moan about ai refs. You will never stop fans from whining about the refs and blaming them for their team losing.

This loss negated the win in the all-seeing eye test.

The reffing definitely fell in Purdue’s favor. It was basically a home game for them. USU would still have lost without the calls against them. Just not so wide of margin.

Granting protected star status to college players is very bad policy. It's terrible policy in the NBA.
