Does Washington Wait?

Post by scotlandog » March 18th, 2024, 10:40 pm

What if we make a deep run? Does Washington go sign someone else on their list to get a coach now and get things going? Does a deep run actually help us rather than hurt our chances of keeping Sprinkle? Or does bigger suitors come calling?

When we make a deep run a better big 10 program with deeper nil pockets than UW will come calling.

I’m kind of shocked by how unimaginative these programs are.

I expect the only thing keeping Washington from announcing it already is that they don't want to get trashed by the media.

Wait on Danny Sprinkle? MAYBE SO!! I've just been told that Mark Pope wants OUT at byu and will undercut any offer made to other candidates to make it happen.

I’m curious for you to elaborate on this. Do you mean hiring Danny sprinkle is unimaginative by Washington? How so?

There's a lot at stake for Washington. They have to make the right hire, and will spend the resources to make it happen. I would guess there's a lot of interest in the job

Washington made sense for DS. Okie doky st. Not so much. Wants to be somewhat close to parents. I think he is looking to stay in the west.

If Pope overtakes Danny for the Washington job, BYU wouldn't be able to hire him cause he's not a temple recommend holder.
Other jobs besides Washington are threats though, including ones Washington could get someone to leave for a lateral move.

Danny to BYU…Danny Ainge. He meets BYU’s criteria and has done such a stellar job with picking/trading Jazz players :bangwall: that he would be the golden boy coach for BYU!

Even if Sprinkle is sure he is leaving, being in a hurry makes no sense for him. Wait and see who all the suitors are first. As for Washington, I doubt the media would care at all outside of the Herald Journal, and even if the media cared, why would Washington care about the media. If Danny is their guy and he is ready there is nothing to wait for.

Knowing way too many people close to the BYU program, and knowing people who personally interact with Pope (Utah County curse), this is very surprising. I would also say it is a dramatic change of heart on Pope's part.

BYU never wanted Pope in the first place. Ryan Smith wanted Pope, they wanted someone else.

That’s kind of my point. This needs to be the correct call here for them. Does Danny fit the bill with only 1 year in the MWC? I’ve been told over and over by media personalities the last few days that the MWC didn’t deserve 6 bids, they aren’t any good and they were seeded accordingly. So how does doing well one season in a crappy conference count? Washington needs someone else to sell the masses that they made the right choice. Maybe Rice or Pope is better.

Respectfully, there is no need for them to hurry up. Between incoming recruits and the players who will transfer with Danny, there aren’t urgent recruiting needs. The Cal State Fullerton coach who is joining him at UW has resigned and can start having conversations as a proxy for Danny.

what is the source of your confidence that the CSU-Fullterton coach is joining him, and that it'll happen at UW, and that he would have conversations as a proxy for Danny and that that's what Danny wants?
