It sucks that the portal opens today. It's crazy. It should be the day after the national championship game. 68 teams are still playing in the NCAA, others in the NIT. If you didn't make a post season tourney you have a head start on the portal. Or if your coach leaves after the tourney, the new guy is even further behind.

Re: NAR-Rytis Petraitis
I've wondered about that. My son started at USU in the AFROTC program. He wanted to fly aircraft and thought this would be a good way to get into that. He soon found out that he was not guaranteed a spot in the AF's flight school and once he accepted money from the goverment through the ROTC, he had a commitment to fulfill. He ended up not taking government money and not continuing with the ROTC program.
But yeah - it is tough to see Petraitis transfer. I really liked his game. Air Force is in a tough spot. The portal/transfer door only opens one way for them - out.

Re: NAR-Rytis Petraitis
With how well he plays I'm sure they could scrounge up the NIL money to pay back what he is obligated to if he doesn't want to serve.Yossarian wrote: ↑March 18th, 2024, 3:38 pmI've wondered about that. Re: NAR-Rytis Petraitis
With the treatment he got the last time he was in Logan he might be a bit timid about coming back, even if we're cheering for him this time

Re: NAR-Rytis Petraitis
This does suck. Though I'd take him in a heartbeat.
I've always thought it's dumb that football transfer season opens before bowl games are played, but at least that's partially to get kids to their new schools before the semester starts. For basketball there's no excuse like that.

Re: NAR-Rytis Petraitis
Oregon State would be my guess. His parents were basketball players at Oregon State, and he would land NIL money at Oregon State.

Re: NAR-Rytis Petraitis
That'd be cool. Imagine landing LeDee during the MWC conference tournament game, getting him in an Aggie Jersey during halftime, and then having him get out on the court with four other Aggies. lol.

If a guy named Rytis Petraitis, straight out of the Roman legionnaire tradition, can’t make it stick at AFA……

Pretty much the end of the AFA basketball program. Can’t replace your best player through the portal or NIL money.

Re: NAR-Rytis Petraitis
The future of the MWC/PAC 2 would be at its best if the conference was just the following ten teams: Oregon State, Washington State, San Diego State, Fresno State, Nevada, UNLV, Boise State, Colorado State, Utah State, and New Mexico.
New media deal spilt 10 ways with scheduling arrangements with San Jose State, Hawaii, Wyoming, and Air Force. The ten schools would grow into a new true power conference.
