20 Game Conference Season in 2024-25

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The Mountain West announced today that men’s basketball will play a 20-game Conference slate starting with the 2024-25 season.

Expanding the conference schedule from 18 to 20 games aligns with the Mountain West’s men’s basketball goal to maximize NCAA tournament bids at the highest seeds possible. The 20-game schedule will ensure each MW school plays every Conference opponent twice, once at home and once on the road.

The change to a 20-game schedule will prompt an earlier start to the conference season, pushing intra-league dates earlier in December.
Not huge news or unexpected, but this is a good move. Home and Homes all the way 'round.

Until we add 2 new schools, I suppose. 24 conference games anyone?

The amount of energy necessary to refute bull pucky is an order of magnitude greater than to produce it.

This is a good thing if the MWC can maintain a reputation as a good conference. It does mean that we'll have fewer OOC games to build resumes and build that reputation, but if folks keep thinking of us as a strong conference, then more conference games is a good thing. I think performance in the NCAA's is pretty crucial for whichever teams make it this year so that we can cement the idea of the MWC being a strong basketball conference in the nation's mind.
