No Board Jinx here

Post by SectionBAggie » February 24th, 2024, 9:17 pm

SDSU is going to hold on and beat FSU. 42-16 halftime lead is too much for FSU to overcome.

Teams with 4 losses - USU & BSU
Teams with 5 losses - SDSU, UN, UNLV
Teams with 6 losses - UNM
Teams with 7 losses - CSU

Remaining games among the contenders:
UN@CSU
UNM@BSU
UN@BSU
SDSU@UNLV
BSU@SDSU
UNM@USU
UNLV@UN

Not counting the expected wins against lower teams (when was the last time a contender lost to the bottom feeders - right?) that leaves 128 permutations of the final standings. Most of those look very good for USU, but there is still a lot of basketball ahead.

Pretty sure SDSU will win out so USU better win out as well.

Right. Tie-breakers are easy to see in H-H (USU holds tie breakers over BSU, UNLV and Wyo.) But it gets REALLY messy when multiple teams are involved as would be the case if USU and SDSU were to tie at 13.5. I think it would be possible for UN to also finish 13-5 and USU would be the third seed in that scenario.

If USU and SDSU are tied for first and Boise is third, USU would win the tiebreaker and get the number 1 seed. That only happens if USU loses another game. Win out and first place is solely USU's.

However it’s not very likely that if USU and SDSU were tied for first that only one team would be sitting behind them. Bosie would likely be tied with other teams as well making the tie breaker waters very muddy.

The SDSU vs Boise State Game is huge as far as standings go. I wish the game was being played in Boise.

With the way the Rebels are playing, SDSU @ UNLV will be an interesting matchup.
