4 vs 5

Post by hipsterdoofus21 » February 7th, 2024, 7:42 am

That's the reality we face on one end of the court, and sometimes on both with the centers we have. I'm not sure how that changes, but we're going to get exploited going forward by the MW teams with quality bigs. We have zero rim protection. SDSU put out the blueprint.
At this point not sure Fish can be fixed. He's an occasional flash on offense, but that is now being overshadowed by mistakes and turnovers as teams pressure him more. On defense Fish may has well let them score just so they don't get an and-1. Sakho was playing well for a stretch but has disappeared. Zero feel on offense, and isn't what he was on the boards and defense. Templin is the best of the three but is just about an automatic foul every time someone goes at him. Is it time to give Burris a try? Maybe he's more of a gamer than a practice guy. Can't go small all the time with Osobor. His defense is too inconsistent.

We started well. We contested their shots and made them work for it. We had a long stretch without hitting a bucket and our defense didn't hold up. I feel like we were hoping for the ref to call fouls instead of attacking with aggression.

One of the only positives I see in johnson is that he can help spread the defense out since he is somewhat of a three point threat. The problem is that if he gets the ball it's either going up or he is putting it on the floor. That's the same with most of our guys. too much dribbling around and wasting precious time. The thing i miss most about Odom was how he stressed making an extra pass to get the better shot always. There were too many times last night that players refused to make the extra pass and it cost us open shots.

Except Johnson is only a 33.3% shooter from 3 on the season now and has gone 2 for 16 from the arc since the UNM game. Any kind of volume shooting from him out there is just shooting us out of games. So if that is off the table, what else does he offer? He has had some good rebounding games but usually finds himself in too much foul trouble to contribute for very long. He doesn't even average 15 min. of play as a starter.

Isaac struggles with physicality but in my opinion he is no worse on defense than Great. Great was very slow to the point of attack and really struggles on the screen and roll. He is not putting forth his best effort on defense. Quite frankly most of the players are not putting forth the defensive intensity it takes when playing teams who have overall more talent and size than the Aggies.

Outside of Brown, we've been playing very poor on defense for some time. Osobor has shown what he can do when he's dialed in, but lately he's looked lazy on D.
