Re: 3 Point Shooting Stats So Far
mason will get better as time goes on, he's fairly good on jumpshots otherwise
ian and nigel will regress to the mean, they were really good last year and you have to figure that it'll eventually balance out (that is, if we ever see nigel on the court again. i thought he would be a lot better than what we've seen so far)
i know it's a small sample size, but i want to see isaac get a green light to shoot the 3. he's too good at shooting to not give that to him
lastly, even if we are a really bad team from 3, danny's MSU teams weren't good from 3, but they still won anyways, so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Re: 3 Point Shooting Stats So Far
My thoughts:
- I hadn’t realized Darius has jacked twice as many threes as everyone else. I would have guessed he had fewer attempts and would have guessed his shooting percentage was low 30s, not 38 percent.
- It’s really too bad Isaac is such a liability on defense. He has the potential to become a matchup nightmare on the offensive end. Think a better version of Brandon Horvath.
- I am starting to worry about Nigel Burris’ ability to compete at this level of ball.
- Max needs to play really good defense to justify his minutes.

Re: 3 Point Shooting Stats So Far
I think it’s safe to bet Uduje & Martinez both end up about 35% from 3, both will average out. Mason may end up in that range as well. Brown and Max are both shooting as expected based on their career percentages.

Re: 3 Point Shooting Stats So Far
I feel like the more tape there is on this team, the more they will be defended like they were late in this game. More teams will play zone and dare us to beat them with jump shots.
I don't think there is a large enough sample size from some of these guys to say how they will shoot over the course of an entire season. However, many of them have a season or muliple previous seasons that show what type of shooter they are from beyond the arc. A guy like Ian has 3 seasons in two different conferences and I expect his average at the end of the season to be right around his career 3pt% at 34%.
Darius is already shooting slightly over his career average of 36.5%. Hopefully he stays about where he is.
Josh is shooting well above his career average but it's on a small sample size so far.
Max is only a 27% career shooter from deep so I'm not sure why he has a green light to put up many shots from outside no matter how open he is.
Jackson shot just under 40% from 3 with 180 attempts so I would expect his average to come up quite a bit with more attempts but after tonight I'm not sure he will get the opportunity.
I don't see Mason ever being much more than a 33% 3pt shooter, he just doesn't have a shooter's stroke but maybe he can do some Jaycee-type offseason work and exceed that.
In any case, if teams go zone on us I think we have to get our best shooters on the floor. I thought Isaac played decent defense tonight, he altered some shots, got rebounds and put backs. He was more than just a shooter which was nice to see. I don't understand his lack of PT in the 2nd half. With our ball movement and guard ability to penetrate and kick out we are getting wide open looks. We just don't have the right guys shooting the ball in those situations.

Re: 3 Point Shooting Stats So Far
Some of these numbers baffle me. In the summer basketball that I watched. Max and Nigel were stand out offensive players including shooting 3s. I still hold out hope for them. Offense isn't the reason Burris isn't playing as Aggies22 mentioned, it's defense. Which is weird because I think he has the skills to be really good defensively but there seems to be a mental block happening right now. Sprinkle seems to have a favorite 5-6 players right now that are always going to get big minutes all other players will play based on defensive matchups. Very rarely will it be because of offense.

The inability to shoot the three-ball will be our downfall in March when the officials swallow their whistles during conference tournaments and the NCAA tourney. If we can't make the D' pay for collapsing on the paint while the whistles go silent...well...

I mean at this point do we really want the whistles to go our way in terms of getting fouls and getting to the free throw line? Our free throw shooting is horrendous. Our 2 point shooting % is close to our free throw %.FloridaAggie13 wrote: ↑November 30th, 2023, 6:41 amThe inability to shoot the three-ball will be our downfall in March when the officials swallow their whistles during conference tournaments and the NCAA tourney. When the refs swallow their whistle the Aggies get away with committing a lot of fouls as well. With the exception of the Bradly game, I think it has been in our favor when the refs don’t whistle a lot.

Re: 3 Point Shooting Stats So Far
I’m pretty sure Templin shot an air ball 3 in one of the early games. The announcer said, “yeah, get that out of your system and never do it again.” I thought it was Spencer who said it. The other announcer said he was actually a decent shooter. But that first shot was definitely an air ball.

Re: 3 Point Shooting Stats So Far
We have some capable shooters but we are not going to be an elite 3 point shooting team. I am just thankful for the most part the team is not shooting a high number of 3's. We are currently at 31.5% from 3 on the season. If the Aggies can average 34-35% from 3 most nights they will be tough to beat with how well they are moving the ball and scoring inside the paint.

It was Templin. He looked over to the bench the second he shot it with a look of “my bad”.bigblue32 wrote:Wasn’t that Osobor that airballed the 3 ?scotlandog wrote: ↑November 30th, 2023, 9:51 amI’m pretty sure Templin shot an air ball 3 in one of the early games. So is the stat at the top of this thread incorrect, or did Templin airball a long 2 or miss it during an exhibition game excluded from the stats?FeartheFro wrote: ↑November 30th, 2023, 11:16 amIt was Templin. The stats don't lie. And if you don't believe the stats just ask Templin.

Easy Enough. On January 15 the stats are:
Player 3pm 3pa %
Templin 1 1 50.0
I. Johnson 13 29 44.8
Martinez 22 55 40.0
J. Jackson 10 28 35..7
Brown 25 73 34.2
Uduje 17 51 33.3
Falslev 11 40 27.5
Osobor 1 4 25.0
Agbonkpolo 5 32 15.6
Burris 0 9 0.0
I will say that I trust Brown shooting the 3 with the game on the line. I feel his percentage in the last 2 minutes of a close game is extraordinary!

3 Point Shooting Stats So Far
Considering Max won’t shoot another shot this season and Burris’s minutes are slim to none, I think 35% is pretty respectable. Hopefully teams continue to pack the paint and we make ‘em pay. Isaac should be attempting at least 4 a game. He has such a pure stroke. Once his defense catches up he’ll be a real difference maker.

Darius Brown is 4-5 on the year from 3 with under 2 minutes left.
His lone miss was with 32 seconds left against SUU when the score was 92-82.

Thanks Roy, I knew Brown has been money in the clutch situations. He may only have the 5th best percentage but in the last 2 minutes I only want him or maybe Martinez shooting the 3.
