5 Bid League?

Post by Roy McAvoy » November 23rd, 2023, 3:42 pm

With CSU having just blown out #8 Creighton, the mwc is looking like a 5 bid league right now.

The conference is just racking up wins. Hopefully it keeps going. That would be awesome for the mwc & bode well for usu’s chances.

Through the first couple of weeks, how would you rank the top 6 schools?

Man, the conference is doing really well so far. I don’t think there’s a single bad team in the league. I hope UNLV doesn’t end up proving me wrong.

I don’t think we will Get 5.

We’re a lock for four though. SDSU, Boise, CSU, Nevada, New Mexico and USU will all be fighting for those four spots.

we will agave to go undefeated in out of conference, win at SDSU, @ Boise, and @ Whoever we play out of the rest because those are going to be our only locks for Q1 wins. Basically be a top 1 or 2 in the league standings

Our OOC won’t be strong enough to be the 5th best team and get an at large

I think the league might just cannibalize itself. Lots of good showings so far.

Always does. Travel and playing on the road in MW is very difficult

Just watched some of the Boise/VT game. Dagenhart was wearing a mask. He did not look like a conference player of the year or even first team all MWC.

There are easily two power forwards outplaying him right now. Maybe 3 or 4.

Ledee is conference player of the year thus far.

I was also too high on rice. Without a pg creator he looks fairly average.

Depends how we finish out OOC play, but there almost surely will be at least 5 kenpom/net top 50 teams when conference play starts, maybe 6 if Boise gets its act together.

It will sure give us a chance to add quality wins come conference play time

Did you see who Boise plays tonight? Should be a fun game to see if Shulga and gang can take out the donks. My first instinct is to cheer for MWC first but it is always hard to cheer for bsu.

Last night's shellacking by CSU vaulted them in kenpom. Some strong showings within the conference. CSU, SDSU, and Nevada all look to be March teams.Boise will most likely get it together by the time conference play starts, but they aren't looking so hot right now especially at guard play. Wyoming, USU and UNM just need to keep winning for the MW to continue to bolster it's metrics which helps having a shot at 4 bids this year.

As a league we have 9 top 100 (Kenpom) wins.

SDSU, CSU, NEV have some good wins

USU, BSU, SJSU have some decent wins

The rest have won against bad competition but lost to anybody decent.

We have lots of good games still out there to pick up as a league but I’m still holding off calling the league really strong. We need more wins out of the Nev,USU,BSU,NM group.

Current order based on wins:
SDSU
CSU

Nev
BSU
USU
SJSU
NM

Wyo
UNLV
FSU

AF

I think CSU and Nevada have been the two most impressive teams this preseason. Otherwise, seems about right

Outside of the Washington game, Nevada has played nobody.

63 Washington
283 Sac St
249 Pacific
186 Portland

I give them credit for the Washington away game which is why they are 3rd right now but I think SDSU has done more to this point including also beating Washington:

63 Washington
210 Cal St Fullerton
136 Long Beach St
57 St Mary’s

Lost to 9 BYU

I would be fine switching CSU and SDSU but I don’t see how Nevada would be ahead of SDSU at this point. I’m glad they are all winning games though. We have 26 games vs top 100 Kenpom ranked teams left before conference play. Hopefully we get the majority of those.
