I haven't had a chance to ask yet. I'm hearing that a decision on Ian Martinez isn't expected until September BUT I'll keep trying to verify.scotlandog wrote: ↑August 2nd, 2023, 10:54 amStill no info on this 14=13 issue? Re: 13=14? (2023-24 Edition)
Just my guess, but since this whole 14=13 issue was caused by the late signing of Martinez, I’m guessing that regardless of if he is cleared to play or not this season, he is the one that is not taking a scholarship. He gets some NIL or something this year to cover expenses and then they put him on scholarship next year. Just a theory.aggies22 wrote:I haven't had a chance to ask yet. There is VERY little chance Ian will get his waiver approved. He will have 2 years of eligibility left after this season.hipsterdoofus21 wrote: ↑November 6th, 2023, 11:45 amSo is he trying get cleared to play this year or next?aggies22 wrote: ↑August 2nd, 2023, 4:42 pmCorrect.cval wrote: ↑August 2nd, 2023, 4:10 pmI think 22 has already confirmed that Ian is on scholarship.AGGIEinIOWA wrote: ↑August 2nd, 2023, 12:54 pmJust my guess, but since this whole 14=13 issue was caused by the late signing of Martinez, I’m guessing that regardless of if he is cleared to play or not this season, he is the one that is not taking a scholarship. Why has he not received an answer from the ncaa and the season is starting? Whether or not it is a yes or no, this is terrible handling by the approval authority. They’ve had 6 months to figure it out.aggies22 wrote: ↑November 6th, 2023, 12:17 pmThere is VERY little chance Ian will get his waiver approved. Re: 13=14? (2023-24 Edition)
It's the NCAA. They don't really give a $hit about Utah State. Unless we were to make the Final Four, then they would find a way to give us the death penalty.slcagg wrote: ↑November 6th, 2023, 12:25 pmWhy has he not received an answer from the ncaa and the season is starting? Re: 13=14? (2023-24 Edition)
To be fair, the NCAA has a lot on its plate with all the enforcement of the rules and (I can't express myself without swearing) they do now. I mean the recruiting violations alone, it's gotta be tough shirking that much responsibility; I'm sure they are swamped. Poor lads and lasses.slcagg wrote: ↑November 6th, 2023, 12:25 pmWhy has he not received an answer from the ncaa and the season is starting? Re: 13=14? (2023-24 Edition)
Any chance we go after Robert Ford III from Montana state? I don't know if he has any eligibility remaining but he's 6'0" and averages 15 pts, 8 rbs and about 3 assists. He also averages 3 stls per game. could be a fun guy to watch.

I know he hasn't been the most pivotal player, but throughout the season I've been impressed with his performance. We don't normally get that much out of a walk-on. And we're certainly getting more out of him as a walk-on than many of our scholarship players.

Re: 13=14? (2023-24 Edition)
I am not sure about that. We seem to have one of the best walk on programs in the country.Real Life Aggie wrote: ↑March 13th, 2024, 10:13 amI know he hasn't been the most pivotal player, but throughout the season I've been impressed with his performance. Justin Bean
Able Porter
Trevin Dorius
Quinn Taylor
I am pretty sure I am missing some too.
Then there have also been a few guys that came in as a walk-on and leverage that into a scholarship somewhere else, guys like Konner Frey and Carson Bischoff.
I don't know because I don't follow other school close enough but it seems very abnormal to have the success we do with walkons.
But if you are considering walking on someplace, it seems that Utah State is the place to do it.
