I was at the game sitting fairly close to the student section. It was pretty tense between the fans and the USU bench all night. I didn’t hear the chant, but that does not mean it didn’t happen.

As soon as the buzzer sounded Funk went over to the student section and started talking $hit. Akin followed and a few others. A few coaches had to go get them.

There’s a UNLV fan on Reddit saying it was probably a coincidence and they were just showing public support for Russia and didn’t realize he was Ukrainian (and not being sarcastic)

I live in Fort Collins and attended the game. My deepest apologies for this despicable and revolting behavior by CSU students. Our mother barely escaped with the clothes on her back from Mariupol Ukraine just a few months ago so we feel extremely angry and ashamed about this. Most likely it will be quite a while before we attend another CSU game.

Kids do stupid stuff all the time. Oregon students chanted "F#$! the Mormons" when they played byu. Apologies were issued. Two weeks later they played Stanford (which has/had a few Mormons on the team) and guess what they chanted? For being in higher education some of these young kids sure aren't very smart.

Good man for acknowledging the disgusting behavior and apologizing for them. The student body needs to issue a public apology, at least from the student fan group.

While the "F#$!" the Mormons is also disgusting, this is worse in my view. Maybe it's because I don't take offense nearly as much for someone saying "F#$!" you or "F#$!" my religion.

You missed my point. I am saying that these stupid college age kids say stupid stuff a lot. I'm not comparing the 2. I wish these kids would think beyond the moment of what consequences may come if they say stupid stuff. But that isn't the world we live in. I'll stop there before I get too sandboxy.

Our students should do something in support of Max. I know it was brought up a while back to once again show him support. However, someone mentioned that we need to leave politics out of sports but this is different. Max is an Aggie and one of our own was disrespected in a disgusting way. We need to show him that it wasn’t ok and that Aggie Nation stands with him.

Thanks for the post and the thoughtful comment, and our sympathy for your mother's situation -- nothing but admiration for Ukraine and its people over the past year. But don't let the actions of a few of the dumbest (and possibly drunkest) students keep you from supporting your team. I had the pleasure of being in Moby last night, and really enjoyed the game and the arena. Your fans were great and the short-handed Rams fought to the buzzer. Isaiah Stevens is my favorite non-Aggie player in the league. Hope you'll keep supporting and enjoying them.

This is how I feel about it too. Very unfortunate and hopefully some people learn from it and hopefully it’s a reminder to all of us to think before we speak.

This guy has it. Pretty clear to me...

Some csu fans are saying that they were chanting Shulga. When I listen to this with that in mind, I do hear Shulga. When I listen for Russia, I hear Russia. Reminds me of that yanny or laurel video where you can hear either one.

I'm as defensive about Ukraine as anybody (my family fled from there when it was part of the USSR due to antisemitism), but it would be a shame if they were saying Shulga and it got blown out of proportion over a tweet.

I made a sign for an Aggie game my freshman year that I'm super embarrassed about now, 16 years later. Super poor taste. Not a reflection of me now or USU or the fan base (a lot of people thought it was funny, but in hindsight it was hurtful). College kids are dumb. So I am going to refrain from judging csu as a whole, especially based on the audio of that clip.

Certainly was bad taste from a small subset of students. I won't condemn their whole fan base for the words of a few. Looking back at some of the things I said as a student makes me cringe. Hopefully they can learn and do better in the future.

Agreed, I tried to hear Shulga, but the R sound is too strong for it to be Shulga.

Seems likely if Shulga, Stacheworth, and the radio team heard it. They would hear it more clearly than in that Twitter clip.
