Lane Violations

Post by andytheaggie » February 1st, 2023, 9:46 pm

Does anyone draw the other team into the lane early more than Dan Akin? Is it due to his delayed release after he gets into his shooting motion? Seems like every time it's called, Dan follows it up with a make.

Yes. Simple as that. You'd think that by now teams would know he has a hitch in his release.

I think he has drawn five lane violations in five games and he made all five of the extra free throws.

One thing that would be funny is if Dan continues to slow release to draw the lane violations, and they make a rule about lane violations with slow release free throws not being violations. And the rule could be called the Dan Akin rule.

And then people could mispronounce his name in perpetuity.

I am guessing he has had 12+ lane violations calls on his free throws this year. I want to say he has made every free throw after the lane violation. He has it mastered.

i always thought there was a rule about slow delivery on free throw shots. The problem with that is that that is Dan's typical release so the rule doesn't apply to him. I guess he could shoot it quicker or even slower to put off the players but as long as it's his regular release they have to wait until he shoots it. It was funny toward the end of the game each of New Mexico's players were telling each other about it, and one guy still almost went into the lane. he lost his balance and was moving his arms to not try to fall in the lane!!!! it's pretty funny

Watching the replay, he gets some lane violations on his makes so it isn't necessary to make the call.

Opposing teams should have picked up on it by now...hope they don't though.

I doubt if much film time is spent on free throws. But by tournament time, each team will have seen and experienced it first hand and be more prepared.

It's hard to change habits, especially one to get after the ball for the rebound.

I thought that after the first lane violation a new Mexico player was pointing at his head and saying think. They had it scouted and they just didn't execute.
