JUST A THOUGHT
JUST A THOUGHT
I feel like the fanbase needs another show of support for Max, his family and the country of Ukraine lest they think maybe we have forgotten. I loved the flag thing that was done before. What do you guys think? What about it HURD? Any ideas or am I wrong in even having this thought?

We should show continued support by winning tonight. That would be a real middle finger to Putin.

Odd place to ask this question,
Does anyone know where Vedischev ended up? Is he playing college ball in the US?

Re: JUST A THOUGHT
Honest question, do you like the National Anthem being sung at sporting events? I think at the end of the day everyone is going to have a different level of political expression they like seeing at a public event like a basketball game.Stockypoo2212 wrote: ↑January 25th, 2023, 10:51 ami understand what you are saying and showing support but bringing politics into sports is ruining sports. just play basketball. thats my thought

Re: JUST A THOUGHT
Yeah I do. Because I love America. The national anthem only became political because people started kneeling for the flag and the national anthem. In my opinion tho is I watch sports to get away from all the political crap and I think a lot of people feel the same way. If you look at the recent ratings after things got super political in sportsHalloween-Aggie wrote: ↑January 25th, 2023, 1:20 pmHonest question, do you like the National Anthem being sung at sporting events? Re: JUST A THOUGHT
I'm indifferent. I don't have a problem with it being played at sporting events. It has almost become a "must", but it hasn't always been that way.Halloween-Aggie wrote: ↑January 25th, 2023, 1:20 pmHonest question, do you like the National Anthem being sung at sporting events? For college events, it makes more sense to play the college fight songs than the national anthem. For major national sporting events (superbowl, world series, Kentucky Derby, Daytona 500, etc.) It makes more sense.
I was just thinking - if it wasn't for sporting events, when would you ever hear the anthem?

I teach Junior High and I personally like reciting the pledge of allegiance, singing the national anthem, etc. To me it's just a celebration about what is right and good with our country.Stockypoo2212 wrote: ↑January 25th, 2023, 2:03 pmYeah I do. "Political" just means anything relating to the government or public affairs of a country. A more accurate statement when people say they don't want to hear political expression in certain public arenas would just be to say they think certain forms of expression are too divisive or they do not want to hear speech they disagree with at public events.
Just like you say you like the Anthem because you love America, a lot of others would say they'd love to see a show of support for Ukraine at a USU game because they love freedom.

Did he have a role beyond jacking up 28-footers while being triple-teamed? That's not to say he wasn't good at that.AggieFBObsession wrote: ↑January 25th, 2023, 2:28 pmI disagree. He would've been accepted well had he been willing to accept his role and work hard.

The national anthem started being played at games during WWI. The NFL used to play the anthem while the teams were in the locker room until the DOD started paying the league millions to turn NFL pre-games into a recruiting campaign. Why do we start games with the anthem and not concerts or movies?
I'm pretty sure outside of North America the only time you hear anthems played is before international competition when both the anthems of both countries are played.
To me, playing the anthem for thousands of liquored up fans has nothing to do with real patriotism.
Sorry, probably too sandboxy.

When the "shut up and dribble" crowd intersects with the "show support for our local Ukrainian player" crowd.Stockypoo2212 wrote: ↑January 25th, 2023, 10:51 ami understand what you are saying and showing support but bringing politics into sports is ruining sports. just play basketball. thats my thought

Re: JUST A THOUGHT
Every big time club swim meet started with the anthem and if Canada teams were in attendance, the played theirs also. Meets in Canada that had us teams played both anthems also. Swimmers ranged from top high school level swimmers to Olympian's.

We have an Aggie, playing in a foreign land, far, far from home, with his nation in a devastating war and the lives and well being of his family threatened on a daily basis. Showing support for him is not about politics, it is about caring for a member of your family.
