My dad frequently talks about how he wishes they would bring it back. Ha that’s a big reason why I threw the idea out there again.BearLakeMonster wrote: ↑January 21st, 2023, 11:16 pmThere was a decibel meter with a light board display in the southwest corner of the spectrum through the 90's. It had flashing lights that would go off whenever the noise level passed 100. The students would work to get those lights to go off as much as they could.MrBiggle wrote: ↑January 21st, 2023, 9:28 pmI am pretty sure this has been done before, back during those 06-11 years.Dkdavis wrote: ↑January 21st, 2023, 9:25 pmThe Hurd committee should get a decibel meter that can hook up to a little billboard so the students can see how loud they are getting. I bet you could get the crowd super loud with that.VegasBornAggie wrote: ↑January 21st, 2023, 9:22 pmGreat crowd tonight. They were super loud. So much so I saw somebody had a decibel meter in the spectrum that hit 122 db. Let’s keep it going vs UNM!!!
Tonight was a great atmosphere. My kids have been looking forward to this game since October, and they had blast. Sorry to the section U fans that had to stand up cuz I wouldn’t sit down the last two minutes.

Great game tonight! I was told tonight that this is the first time the HURD has reached the capacity for student section tickets in 4 years since the SDSU game with Malachi Flynn and Sammy Buckets. Place was rocking tonight. Let’s do it again against SDSU!

Re: The HURD
I knew it would be a return to Spectrum glory when I entered the arena 20 minutes prior to tipoff and the student section was already at capacity. That pregame energy has to play a major factor in both team's mental state. Now we just need the community at large to get behind this team. SDSU should be a sell-out.VegasBornAggie wrote: ↑February 2nd, 2023, 12:55 amGreat game tonight! Re: The HURD
That is awesome. The student section has been amazing. I was worried that House would feed off the energy from our crowd. I guess he fed on it so much that he couldn't get locked in.

I know lots of people love seeing blue in the stands - I do as well.
But the Spectrum Magic t-shirts looked so awesome last night in the Hurd Section. It gave a bright and unique backdrop.
It's fun -I'd rather see that than black outs - and maybe get uniforms with the numbers in one of the colors on white (heresy, I know)

8:00 PM game as a sellout? I'm doubtful..aggiesdotcom wrote: ↑February 2nd, 2023, 7:45 amI knew it would be a return to Spectrum glory when I entered the arena 20 minutes prior to tipoff and the student section was already at capacity. Thought of that - but I'm not sure that would fly with the rules - don't they have to match?flying_scotsman2.0 wrote: ↑February 2nd, 2023, 8:07 amHow about the number randomly with yellow, orange, and brown?AGinNEIowa wrote: ↑February 2nd, 2023, 8:02 amI know lots of people love seeing blue in the stands - I do as well.

Speaking of the jerseys, the white version used tonight is far and away my favorite. Nice clean look to it.

Heard a rumor there might be something in the works with the AD and a decibel meter.Dkdavis wrote: ↑January 21st, 2023, 11:17 pmMy dad frequently talks about how he wishes they would bring it back. Re: The HURD
I can confirm. I have been to almost all aggie basketball games over the last 40 years. To me this was the loudest it has ever been. It was an amazing experience to be there. I will say a close second was a few barn burner games against UNLV back when the won the national championship. There is honestly no place like the spectrum on winter nights.Aglicious wrote: ↑January 18th, 2023, 4:50 pmIt was Stavon Williams and it was this series. Re: The HURD
The decibel meter Kickstarter has been submitted for approval. We should hear back about whether Kickstarter approves it by about Monday. In the meantime, you can see the preview and register to get notified when it goes live for real at the following link.

My son had a lot of fun doing the video as a mini-project for his New Media class in high school. He has also been learning Logic Pro and did all the music too. I think he did a great job!

Re: The HURD
I think it must have broken. In my emailing with the AD office back in 2017 about this, they said:
"At one point, a few engineers attempted to fix the original meter. A couple of years back, some folks from the USU Space Dynamics Lab begin working on a similar project. However, none of the individuals or groups were able to revamp the meter within their budget (which were very minimal)."
Mine is basically going to use an off-the-shelf decibel meter with USB output, a small computer, and a high brightness LED display (they kind you would see in a newer restaurant for their menu signage either outdoor or indoor). We won't have the orange lights like the old one, but we can do a ton of animation stuff on the display to mimic that.
We even have ideas for keeping track of the all-time high, the high during a given game, etc. and showing that periodically to motivate the crowd.
