Re: Number 20 to the Rafters
What do you have to do to get your number retired? This is just a jersey retirement, right?

Re: Number 20 to the Rafters
The Aggship says it's a jersey retirement. For what it's worth...I think it should pretty much always be a jersey retirement and not a number retirement, even in the pros.

Loved watching him play. Aside from being a great shooter I loved how he moved on offense he was constantly cutting/running to get open. Would like to have seen how much he ran in an average game.

It's fitting they have this ceremony during the game against Nevada. Those battles between Carroll and Marcellus Kemp were fun to watch.

Good job athletic dept. I always felt like we missed opportunities like this in the past. Well done.

Re: Number 20 to the Rafters
I idolized Jaycee as a youngster. You often hear that you shouldn’t meet your heroes, but I was able to interact with him quite a bit. He was exceptionally kind to my family and I. Even sent me a signed Real Madrid jersey years later.
Awesome to see that his legacy will live on in this way and that the current student body will be educated about an Aggie great.

Re: Number 20 to the Rafters
In Montreal their hockey team has a whole bunch of “high” numbers because they retired 14 numbers and the vast majority of them are between 1-20 and all but 1 are between 1-30. (Patrick Roy’s 33 being the only one above 30) so you get a lot of high numbers in Montreal. I think Boston too.3rdGenAggie wrote: ↑January 4th, 2023, 2:04 pmThe Aggship says it's a jersey retirement. Almost all of those players deserved it. Not a big deal. Some players prefer high numbers anyway. It’s just a thing of note. Boston is in a similar position. They only have 2 single digits available, and in reality it’s really only one- as #1 isn’t a number you’ll see a forward or dman wear.

Re: Number 20 to the Rafters
I once played against Jaycee in a 3 on 3 tournament championship in Green River, Wyoming and won. It's my only claim to fame. We were also only in 7th grade. A few years later, I remember watching him destroy our high school team.
I am excited to see him get this recognition. It is well deserved. He was fun to watch at USU.

Re: Number 20 to the Rafters
what a surprise this is! we were already planning this to be our first DGSS visit since 1999 for a hoops game. A couple weeks ago we sent an email to our nieces and nephews out in UT and ID (some at school in utcounty) to join us, and just bought 20 tickets! We're doing our part to fill the Spectrum that night
Grandchild #3 is due two weeks prior in Rexburg, my wife will be there for about 10 days, I'll be up there that week, and we're flying home the 19th - so this game worked into our travel plans

Re: Number 20 to the Rafters
I still remember the game at Lawlor where he and Kemp combined for 70+ points. Like watching a couple of prize fighters trade haymakers for two hours straight.

We retire JC’s jersey and at the same time NMSU cancels their program. Coincidence? Nobody owned the Newmags like JC.

Doubtful since it's a TV game. I'm planning on recording it on my phone. Hopefully the AD puts out a higher quality production.

I'll just leave this here to get us in the right frame of mind. Can't believe I uploaded that 13 years ago...seems like yesterday. (hopefully you can see something through the Crisco covered lens that we used back then).
