Rylan's Status?

Post by Aggie84025 » December 1st, 2022, 9:41 pm

I missed the first half of the game and have not seen the play where Rylan got injured. Any update on how he is doing or the severity of his injury? We need him badly out there. Ashworth is a good guard but Rylan brings a calming demeanor to the team and is a good assist man.

He was very shakey going off the court. Haven’t heard anything

Saw him walking around after the game. Looked a little out of it but if he’s good enough to be out and about a little that’s a good sign

Yes, that's sarcastic. He was clocked in the head by a big with an elbow. Clean play, but nasty unfortunate hit.

Does he have a history of concussions?? Looked like he was in and out there for a bit. Hope it’s like Ashworth ankle and bounce back but I’m nervous

If Rylan is out for a little bit of time, do we pull Falslev’s redshirt or do we just have Shulga fill PG duties with Ashworth? If Shulga is playing more PG, who picks up more time? Hamoda? RJER? Bairstow? All of the above?

RJ is slow on offense and often throws our tempo down the drain.

Zee is great defensively but forces weird and bad shots on offense while also being out of control and picking up offensive fouls

Bairstow is in a bad funk he’s mediocre on defense which is where he should shine and missed easy shots under the basketball and is a non threat from the 3 point line

Personally I’d like to see what Falslev has to offer.

Excellent take but you left off the part about Bairstow being a turnover machine.

I’d take Hamoda’s erratic play with moments of very good play over Bairstow’s awful play all the time. No mas Bairstow.

Let's be honest though, Odom is doing a very good job getting the best players on the court. Bairstow hasn't been playing great, and hasn't been getting as many minutes as he might otherwise. Shulga and Hamoda have been getting more minutes. RJER got a bunch of minutes last year and is barely playing this year. Ashworth should probably be playing closer to 40 minutes per game with his recent performances.

Agreed, he has kept his starting lineup but Dan and Steven see starting minutes off the bench. He has done a really good job managing who should get more minutes and has not been afraid to sit players that are not performing well.

Horrible idea to pull Falslev's redshirt at this time. Gut it out with Shulga and Ashworth. Start Eytle-Rock so Ashworth can keep coming off the bench and win Sixth Man of the Year.

Sixth man? Ashworth is playing now like he wants league MVP, nevermind sixth man of the year. But this is the MWC so he may get runner-up to national player of the year and may make 3rd team all Mountain West.

I agree...let Falslev continue to learn and prep for next season, and save the eligibility.

Shulga and Ashworth can go for the whole game with breaks by subs by RJ and Bairstow.

We pulled Jardine's redshirt even later than this, didn't we?

A part of me thinks:

We have a 5th year senior coming off the bench that has started at least three years and was an all-conference performer with UMBC. If we can't rely on a guy like this to play an increased role while Jones recovers, that is an issue that should have been taken care of in the off season. For most teams, that would be a luxury. Eytle-Rock is not a dynamic player, but we should be able to rely on him and his tremendous experience, to at least not lose games, right?

Hard to take care of that in the offseason when he had an injury, right? It was unpredictable how he would recover. I'll admit he's not playing to the level he was last year, but I'm also in the boat of don't give up on him yet.

22, is Falslev not ready to play yet? Being only 6 games in, we haven’t lost much. My hypothetical scenario was if Jones is going to miss a lot of time. Let me change that slightly and say if Jones is out for the season, should we pull Falslev’s red shirt? Get him playing time behind Ashworth at PG and time behind Shulga at SG? Just trying to understand the thought process.

If Jones were out for the season, they would probably pull the redshirt. Mason is going to be a good player but him and Isaac Johnson saw the value of sitting this year where they would have seen limited minutes and saving a year of eligibility for much more time down the road.

We got Spencer Johnson to transfer too. I mean, I can see the appeal of transferring to play with his brother...

Any word if Rylan made the trip and is going to be released to play?

With Rylan out a lot is going to fall on Ashworth. He will probably be guarding their best player shabazz and will also need to score 20+ points to give the Aggies a chance.

RJ is an enigma. He looks not so good in stretches, and the he will do what he did last game. We were losing our lead, and needed shooters ……which he drained a 3 and then next time hit a 2 pointer which gave us our momentum back. Made a difference.
