Post by slcagg » November 30th, 2022, 6:32 am

Some good ones on the schedule for today.

I’m interested to see how New Mexico performs

Big game for New Mexico. St. Mary's is #25 on Kenpom.

And the WCC has become a quality conference for basketball the last two years, outside of Gonzaga who has obviously been VERY good for some time.

Too bad they're so afraid of playing us, on account of our great win rate against them. https://www.usustats.com/opponents/Gonzaga

They only recently broke their 4 game losing streak against us.

Yep. Before 2017, we hadn't lost a game to Gonzaga in 65 years. Pure domination.

Wyoming drops the first game today. Losing to Santa Clara in OT 89-85. Wyoming missing on opportunities in the OOC and then will get Ike back and be tough. I hate that. It’s the perfect recipe to sabotage the conference.

I think the committee does take injuries into consideration, but as far as I know the computers do not, so yea will hurt. I do wonder if Wyoming will ever be as good as they could have been. The injury could also be a setback in team chemistry, progress, etc. Not to mention I think several conference mates including us recruited to address playing against Ike, upgrading their post players.

At least it's the injuries and not the qualifying and grades issues that might be leading to sabotage, unlike the old BWC/WAC days with the NewMags.

You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.

New Mexico beat St. Mary’s in Moraga. That’s a very good victory. Colorado State and Air Force also won. It ended up being another good day for MWC basketball.

I just saw that USU is an 18.5 point favorite to tomorrow. I’ll be surprised if they don’t win by that much.

It’s good to see New Mexico and UNLV playing well. The perception of the Mountain West is so much better when they’re good. That bodes well for us if we keep playing well

How is it that 7-0 UNM beats Saint Mary's on the road and only moves up to 81 on Kenpom? St. Mary's is sitting at 29 right now. Kenpom must have some drag effect from last season. It will be interesting to see what NET shows in a week or two.

Bad form to quote my own post, I know. (I'll make it part of my daily repentance.) But does anybody have an answer to my question? What is the benefit of playing a neutral court game at a community college gym in a state where neither team is located at 3 pm on a Wednesday afternoon? Someone made this decision, and I need to understand why.

Would you want to go to Laramie?

Fly in, go to the hotel, get up for shootaround, have lunch, play game, fly home. Same in Laramie as in Santa Clara. Nobody's asking them to buy a house there.

Their fans should be upset as well. Maybe it is the fertile grounds of Utah hoops that they want to open up for recruiting.

... i mean, i am woefully unaware of how recruiting works, but how on earth would playing in a CC gym at noon on a weekday be good for recruiting

unless you're being sarcastic, then im stupid lol

Until late December KenPom continues to use data from last season as well. Once that is gone then you'll have a better view of how good they really are. It also isn't very reactive. KenPom isn't going to swing wildly off of 1 game.

As for NET, I think we may see the first release Monday morning.

The MWC is doing a nice job of getting some separation from the AAC and the WCC as the No. 7 conference. That will be huge come bid time, and once everyone gets into conference play the conference rankings should remain relatively static.

Boise pulls off the win against Texas A&M by 15. Good win for the conference. Should give a nice boost to offset the other losses today.

Fresno with a good win as well beating Irvine. Nevada currently in a close game with LMU who we will play soon enough. And UNLV up by 21 over San Diego at halftime.
