WBB getting destroyed by…Utah Tech??

Post by Roy McAvoy » November 15th, 2022, 8:36 pm

:headscratch:

I really like the WBB coach as a person. She seemed to bring a lot of energy and excitement to the program. However, losing by 40 to Utah Tech is really really bad.

:noidea:

No idea what the contract situation is with the head coach but when you saw the signees and how they were trying to get bodies right up until the season this is not a surprise.

I can’t imagine this continues past this year it’s not working

Should we lose to them in any sport at this point in history?

I think quite easily it is. I mean men's golf is not great but WBB is a complete train wreck and an embarrassment.

I am an avid golfer but having a sponsored golf team in Logan, UT makes absolutely no sense. I would much rather see that replaced with a Baseball team. And yes, baseball is fine in cold weather places. Golf really doesn’t.

About women's basketball? There can't be that much to say. I mean I called it an embarrassment but that's a stretch considering its pecking order in the grand scheme of things.

Golf and women’s basketball getting mentioned at the same time is what I meant.

Let’s hope. I’m not going to lie and act like I am a huge WBB follower but losing to teams we have lost too is flat out embarrassing. For a MWC team that shouldn’t happen in any sport. The coach can’t even recruit local girls to come play. The school should sue Hartwell for that buyout lol

Nah she’s more like the Dr. Oz seeing as Kamala actually wins stuff.

Yea, like the Democratic nomination in 2020, right?

Yet she still became the VP. She always lands "on top".

Lol, I had no idea about the Denver drama. How embarrassing.

I attended almost all home women's basketball games in 2016 and 2017. Such a weird swing between those seasons, brought back all the leading players into 2017 and were awful.

After losing by 25 points (at home) to Ball State yesterday, I decided to see where the women's team ranks in terms of the computer ratings.

Realtimerpi.com has USU as the No. 344 team in the country. Their RPI actually moved up 4 spots after losing to Ball State (presumably because Ball State is No. 161) so I suspect that it will bump up some more when they lose to No. 37 USC this weekend.

The other thing I noticed was just how bad the Mountain West is at WBB. I knew it was bad but it is currently ranked 29/33 (including independents) ahead of only the Southland, Mid-Eastern, and Northeast. This is pathetic and inexplainable, and if nothing else, the conference should be there for the taking for any competent program builder.

I hear there is/was stuff between golf and WBB. Wonder why both programs have done terrible the last two years.

If you look at the net, MW is 13th out of 32 conferences, because they are bolstered by csu/unlv (63, 65) and San Diego state and Wyoming (94, 101). But Utah state is at 309. A net ranking of 309 in the coaches 3rd year. And entirely new roster.

I actually spoke with a former athlete from the program in Kayla Ards first year, and let’s just say, she did not speak well of her experience playing for Kayla.

Sure, usu just won a conference game, but they aren’t gonna win many, and I think it’s time for Ard to be shown the door. If we want to see this program have the potential to take a step forward. And also, maybe, so student athletes can have a better experience playing at Utah state than the one I talked to (and all the ones that transferred).

from an economic standpoint, it's not.

Agreed from an economic standpoint it does not make sense. Women's basketball generates very little revenue for the department. It sucks the team is in the shambles but from a financial standpoint for the department I would much rather see them just deal with the team sucking until the contract runs out and then try and find someone new.
