Re: Ashworth injured
It will just mean more time for Shulga and Hamoda and we'll see Eytle-Rock get more PT according to the Odom. Didn't sound like Odom expected Ashworth to be out that long anyway.

Re: Ashworth injured
As someone who has had a medial rolled foot sprain, it hurts like HELLo and takes forever to heal compared to a lateral roll.flying_scotsman2.0 wrote: ↑November 15th, 2022, 12:00 pmThis is a strange ankle sprain. Usually you sprain the lateral side of your ankle. He apparently injures his right ankle while in motion left. He must've not planted well and rolled his right foot medially. Either way, it didn't look like a particularly violent injury. Couple that with the fact that he's a little guy, I bet he'll be good to go in a couple weeks.
But I'm no master of ankle injuries, so take that for what it's worth.

Re: Ashworth injured
I'm thinking that it will be a position by committee of sorts. Rylan can't play a full 40, but there are enough ball handlers (hammer me now I know) that it shouldn't be a problem. What we'll miss most is Ashworth's scoring, his ability to create for others, and being able to create contact to get to the free-throw line.

Re: Ashworth injured
Any timeline on how much time he could miss? I hope the increase in minutes is split evenly between shulga, jones, hamoda and RJER. RJER has not looked this season, it sounds like he is still recovering from an injury, but replacing a majority of Ashworths minutes with RJER would not be a great recipe.aggies22 wrote: ↑November 15th, 2022, 3:27 pmI'm thinking that it will be a position by committee of sorts. Re: Ashworth injured
Crutches were probably an overabundance of caution until they could fully assess it. But if it was simply an ankle sprain, even a bad one, the way to heal as quickly as possible is to try to mobilize the ankle and stretch it out as much and often as possible.Coloraggie wrote: ↑November 15th, 2022, 8:32 amAfter the game his teammates approached him and he looked to say to them he is fine. Looks like the crutches are an overabundance of caution and trying to get healing as quick a possible. I think he plays next game.
I had a very bad sprain in high school where it ballooned out and I couldn't put any weight on it. Went to the doctor and they put a cast on it and told me to keep my weight off of it. I was playing high school sports at the time so I wanted a second opinion and went to the Utah State Athletics Training center doctors. The athletics trainer came in the room, looked at the cast, shook his head and left the room. Came back in with some scissors and said "first things first, let's get this stupid thing off of you". He cut the cast off and told me to use a fabric based brace, but to walk on my ankle as much and as often as I could. I spent a couple weeks with athletics trainers doing stretches and strengthening exercises on it until the pain and swelling went down. I started the first half of the season or so taping the ankle up before practice and games, and I think I wore my brace for most of the season probably for peace of mind.
Anyway, long story short, if it's an ankle sprain the crutches won't help him heal faster. It will help with the pain, but he will need to mobilize that thing as much as possible if he wants it to get back to normal.

Re: Ashworth injured
Ding ding. The medial ligaments are some of the strongest in the body. Often they don’t tear, instead the will break the medial malleolus(tibia).BioAggie wrote: ↑November 15th, 2022, 2:19 pmAs someone who has had a medial rolled foot sprain, it hurts like HELLo and takes forever to heal compared to a lateral roll.flying_scotsman2.0 wrote: ↑November 15th, 2022, 12:00 pmThis is a strange ankle sprain. This is likely why they put him on crutches right away. If you can’t walk on it right away, then imaging is recommended.

Re: Ashworth injured
I would expect a quicker than expected return. Ashworth seems to be that type of guy. There are also special shoes or braces that can help. Figure the coaching staff will be conservative this early in the season.

I'm guessing the team is travelling to San Diego today. Anyone know if Ashworth is traveling with the team?

Do they make those shoes in lime green or purple, by chance?

Yes, but can you get those special shoes in florescente colors? That could be a problem.

Re: Ashworth injured
Ashworth practiced again today...will travel to San Diego...and is expected to play.
Coach Odom would like to thank everyone in this thread that provided their personal experience with ankle sprains. It helped with the miraculous healing.
In actuality, everything seemed way worse when it happened and in the end it he just twisted his ankle, no sprain.

That is great to hear. When it happened and his reaction when he got to the bench it seemed really bad. Hopefully he does not have repeat tweaks of the ankle.Floppy Hat wrote: ↑November 16th, 2022, 1:49 pmAshworth practiced again today...will travel to San Diego...and is expected to play.

Lol I think many had similar thoughts reading this thread. Not hard to spot those who revel in their high school glory days, as if their experience compares in any way to that of a D1 athleteFloppy Hat wrote: ↑November 16th, 2022, 1:49 pmAshworth practiced again today...will travel to San Diego...and is expected to play.

Then perhaps RJ should sprain his ankle as something must be done to also “affect” his shooting.

Re: Ashworth injured
I think most of you know that I'm a gastroenterologist. Some of you may know that my dad was an ophthalmologist in Logan for decades. I was talking to him one day, and mentioned that we had direct ophthalmoscopes in our exam rooms, because sometimes we needed to check for findings in a patient's eyes, like for example Kayser-Fleischer rings in patients with suspected Wilson's disease. I stopped, thought about it for a minute, then told him, "You know Dad, it's OK for your gastroenterologist to look at your eyes, but if your ophthalmologist ever does a rectal exam, it's time to find a new ophthalmologist."MrBiggle wrote: ↑November 16th, 2022, 6:32 pmLOL, that’s hilarious and not surprising at the same time.GUS wrote: ↑November 16th, 2022, 1:06 pmWhen I represented the Department of Professional Licensing as my client agency while working for the AG, we had to discipline a few chiropractors who took the coccyx method a bit too far.MrBiggle wrote: ↑November 15th, 2022, 7:17 pmHere ya go…
