Most Excited

Which newcomer to your team is the most intriguing?

Which returner do you expect to have the biggest jump in production?

Wild guess for the top 8 players in the rotation..?

Which newcomer to your team is the most intriguing: Funk

Wild guess for the top 8 players in the rotation:
- Rylan Jones (Sr.)
- Sean Bairstow (Sr.)
- RJ Eytle-Rock (Sr.)
- Taylor Funk (Sr.)
- Dan Akin (Sr.)
- Max Shulga (Jr.)
- Steven Ashworth (Jr.)
- Zee Hamoda (So.)

Johnson and potentially Falslev are in there too, could see one of them instead of Hamoda.

I would add the Potter kid in there too. He is supposed to contribute some this year.

I'll be honest. I'm not that optimistic for bball right now. I'm excited to watch and will greatly support, but I just don't see a path to us being a top 4 MWC team next year.

G) Rylan Jones, Steven Ashworth
G) RJ Eytle Rock, Max Shulga, Mason Falslev
F) Sean Bairstow, Zee Hamoda
F) Taylor Funk, Cade Potter
C) Dan Akin, Spencer Johnson, Szymon Zapala, Trevin Dorius

Are we thinking Bairstow is finally going to finally break out for his senior year? Or have we seen what he has to contribute and can expect more of the same?

If he can stay healthy I think Bairstow can have a really good year. That's a big if though. He just hasn't been able to stay healthy.

He would have to really improve his outside shooting and free throw percentage

We’re in more trouble than I thought if we are depending on Bairstow to be the lynchpin on our team.

Bairstow can be the key to success if Odom uses him right. He is such a tough matchup due to his size, length, athleticism at the wing. He’ll kill you with his back down and fade away, or beat you with his first step and rattle at the rim if you guard him tight. I think a lot of teams will be forced to send a double team when he backs his man down. If he can recognize the double coming and throw the lob to Akin or kick out to Funk, Ashworth and company for a triple, we will be tough to guard. If he can regain his outside shot from 2 years ago, he could find himself on an all-conference team.

I would pack the paint and dare him to shoot it anywhere outside of 10 feet.

Other than last year, where he was coming off of a broke wrist, Sean was pretty respectable from outside the arc the previous 2 years. Give him this off-season to get his stroke back. Although with his luck he’ll probably break a finger dunking in warm-ups or something.

The thing is, Bairstow was one of the best shooters on the team 2 years ago. So we know he CAN shoot. IF he can play like he did last year and shoot the way he did the year before he is going to be really good.

If that happens and Falslev meets my totally unfair expectations, we should be at the top of the conference. But I guess I should not expect him to play like Merrill did his senior year, when he is just coming home from his mission...

Hunter McIntosh is a transfer from Elon..He started every game he played there and is an excellent 3 point shooter. Interesting side note..He graduated from college in 2.5 years and is well along into an MBA.

Jarod Lucas is a transfer from Oregon State. He is also an excellent 3 point shooter. He was a key player on the OSU round of 8 team. Alford was recruiting him to UCLA so they had a connection. He is a very nice player.

Another transfer, I didn't mention is Tyler Powell. He comes from Seton Hall where he didn't play a lot. However, he is another guy Alford recruited before. He was highly regarded coming out of high school. He had a number of high major offers..I like getting guys coming form P6 but because of limited playing time it is hard to predict how he will do.

Most Excited

Post by AGGIEinIOWA » June 7th, 2022, 4:00 pm

General question. Preferred walk-on Landon Brenchley redshirted last year. Any chance he sees the floor this season and makes a contribution. As a HS senior he had similar numbers as Falslev and as his older brother Jaxon (who plays for the Utes). I don’t think he is likely as athletic as either of them but he has a more solid build. He’s now been in the system for a full year which helps. I remember being pretty excited when we signed him. Considering he plays a position that currently has a lot of competition (RJ, Shulga, Falslev) he may have to be patient for another year or two though. He doesn’t strike me as a young man who is content with just being a career walk-on though so maybe he won’t last here long enough to get his shot.

A friend of mine who has watched them practice three times now, said that Funk will be a very big plus for us. He's an outstanding outside shooter, with more of a power forward game. We lacked that last year with everybody trying to pop from the 3-point line.
