Update on Justin Bean
Justin tells me that he's had workouts with Atlanta, Golden State, Boston, and Minnesota. He has a pro day yesterday (Saturday), and then he has workouts planned with Oklahoma City, Utah, Brooklyn, Detroit, Milwaukee, and Charlotte. With more in the works.

Would love to see him play for the warriors. They're playing their entire roster this year. If he made the team, he'd likely see some time.

He also had a workout with Atlanta, so he's almost made it halfway through the NBA! Sounds like he has a great agent. Hopefully, he can impress enough and leverage that interest into getting drafted.

Re: Update on Justin Bean
Justin is the type of player/personality that can really improve a team. Even if he is the 12 guy on the bench just his hard work ethic, attitude and ability to get along with everyone can make a positive impact on the team even without playing big minutes. I hope he gets an opportunity.

He told me that. Somehow I left the Hawks off the list. Re: Update on Justin Bean
My belief has been that Bean gets picked in the NBA draft. Bean has talent, some length and size, quickness, and most importantly the work effort.aggies22 wrote: ↑May 23rd, 2022, 8:45 pmIn talking with him, he seems pretty hell bent on making an NBA team. I'll be shocked if he gets drafted. I won't be quite as shocked if he makes a team as an UFA.

I wouldn't be shocked. One thing that could hurt his chance is there will only be 58 picks in this year's draft.SLB wrote: ↑May 24th, 2022, 10:01 amMy belief has been that Bean gets picked in the NBA draft. Maybe he'll be able to tell teams picking late that if they want him, they should draft him or he'll sign elsewhere (similar to Sam)

Re: Update on Justin Bean
Are there any real benefits to being drafted late in the second round vs signing as a UFA?
Late seconds usually don't have guaranteed contracts and assuming multiple teams offer, a UFA gets to decide where they go (i.e. avoid the Kings).

I still remember the article about changing Romney to Maverick stadium. The picture they picked was Byu scoring a TD in our end zone and the DB getting burned. Anything Deseret news can do to make us look bad and highlight the golden child.OrangeCountyAggie wrote:Could the chosen a better headline picture?

Re: Update on Justin Bean
I've questioned the DNews alot on this over the years. For example, it seemed like almost every general article about USU basketball over the last 4 years was always headlined by a picture of Brock Miller and not the star (or a more photogenic) player.
Re: Update on Justin Bean
...and, of course, selection of photo based on the opponent in the frame, as well. Deseret News staff reporters don't want the appearance of the Aggie brand to appear anything close to, you know, er, "likeable", or anything, do they?OrangeCountyAggie wrote: ↑May 27th, 2022, 9:37 amI've questioned the DNews alot on this over the years. Des News writes a huge feature piece on Justin Bean highlighting almost every aspect of his current life and prep and people are complaining because there's a byu player in the top picture.

Realistically they probably were like- "Do we have any USU pictures of Justin Bean" and they were like "ya there's gotta be a few from the game in the BYU photo database."Winkie wrote: ↑May 27th, 2022, 10:50 am...and, of course, selection of photo based on the opponent in the frame, as well. Re: Update on Justin Bean
Jaycee spent three years in NBA training camps. All three times the team he was with tried making him a point guard, completely negating his true talents and skill set. If he'd come out five years later, he probably would have stuck somewhere as the game today really doesn't have pure position expectations anymore.OrangeCountyAggie wrote: ↑May 26th, 2022, 9:50 pmI love that he's hell bent on playing in the NBA. Re: Update on Justin Bean
I blame Stew for this. I personally talked to JC just after his junior year and he said the NBA scouts told him they wanted to see him play more on ball his senior year (same thing they told Steph Curry). But Stew refused. Which is stupid considering the team Stew put around him that season (I couldn't tell you who the starting PG was)!FloridaAggie13 wrote: ↑May 29th, 2022, 10:29 amJaycee spent three years in NBA training camps. JC was an incredible athlete and a great off the dribble player. I'm not sure about his passing or defense but had he focused on it for a year (and offseason) he would have mastered that position as well.

Re: Update on Justin Bean
Probably, but there was more prestige to be had playing in the NBA. In fact, he dominated in summer league multiple times and turned down a handful of fall camp invites to go to Europe. Even if it were for a season or two. Europe would have been there as a fall back.Chupamedia wrote: ↑May 29th, 2022, 6:33 pmJaycee was more successful and made more money playing abroad then he ever would have been for the NBA. Point is, it sounds like Bean will do EVERYTHING he can to make the league. Europe is not on his radar.

Not having it on his radar is plain stupid, if true (Who really knows but bean). I love everything about him but he’s not an nba player or even close. He’s a 6’1” shooting guard that’s not very athletic, couldn’t guard nor handle the ball. He was never going to make it or stick in the NBA. I freaking love the dude, one of my all time favorites but there aren’t many dudes that are 6’1” that stick in the nba period, let alone ones that are as limited as him in all other aspects of the game besides shooting.FloridaAggie13 wrote: ↑May 29th, 2022, 10:29 amJaycee spent three years in NBA training camps. Re: Update on Justin Bean
Nonsense, JC was a great athlete with a mean cross-over, non-stop motor and serious handles. Just because he was an all-time great shooter doesn't mean he didn't know how to handle a basketball. In fact, he would break guys down off the dribble and make them pay for closing out on him all the time. My favorite move of his was this high arching floter in the lane. He would dunk on occasion which you can't do if you're "not very athletic."Elkaggie wrote: ↑May 31st, 2022, 9:43 pmHe’s a 6’1” shooting guard that’s not very athletic, couldn’t guard nor handle the ball. Re: Update on Justin Bean
I think USU and Spencer probably had Jaycee's ear at the time as well. Spencer did some camps and things trying to get a shot in the NBA which at the time hurt his European season. I'm sure Jaycee looked at the options and said forget the NBA I'm going to play professionally in Europe and enjoy where it takes me. If the NBA didn't want me I'll go to where they do.
It was absolutely the right choice for him.

Every time people talk about NBA vs Europe for Jaycee, I think to myself: "Make millions and have a great time in Madrid, or battle for playing time and money in Milwaukee/Sacramento/etc?" No brainer for me. Of course, I'm not an athlete with competitive drive, so who knows?pilotaggie wrote: ↑June 1st, 2022, 10:03 amI think USU and Spencer probably had Jaycee's ear at the time as well. It was absolutely the right choice for him.

Re: Update on Justin Bean
I honestly can’t tell if you are serious or not.OrangeCountyAggie wrote: ↑June 1st, 2022, 9:26 amNonsense, JC was a great athlete with a mean cross-over, non-stop motor and serious handles. No doubt he'll get there. I wish JC had that same attitude instead of settling for a cushy life in Spain.
Going to Europe when he did was absolutely the right thing to do. At least imho

Great Athlete, serious handles and dunking were characteristics that were NEVER associated with him.
