Key stats in the win against San Diego State

Post by SLB » January 26th, 2022, 10:55 pm

Ashworth was leading scorer that went 5/10 from 3 with 5 assists on top of that.
Bean got another double-double with also 5 assists on top of that.
RJ and Shulga combined for 15 points, 6 rebounds, and 6 assists. Both were productive to make a productive 2 for 40 minutes.
4 aggies got 2 steals.
+14 on rebounds
From the 3-point line 41.7 % with Ashworth and Shulga (mainly Ashworth) leading the way to have that stat.
Team FT % - 78.6
Bench players Shulga and Dorius scored 16 points with only one missed FG, 6 rebounds, 3 assists, 1 steal, 1 block, 5 fouls, and only 1 TO.
The one real negative stat was Horvath and RJ had a combined 9 TOs, and we need less TOs.

To me the 2 biggest were the rebounds and the 3 pt %. Make 3 point shots like tonight and they will be tough to be beat.

Shulga and Ashworth combined 7/12 from 3.
The rest of the team went 3/12 from 3.

Ashworth was the difference maker tonight. Without his 3’s we struggle to win that one.

The most crucial thing was that we played SDSU. Owning the soul of the other program is a big factor.

I said a few games ago that the offense just runs better with Ashworth at PG. He is a threat to score and keeps the ball moving through passes on offense. He rarely gets caught up in dribbling around in the half court set and he's in constant motion without the ball. Rylan and ER are reliant on lots of dribbling to create which seems to cause a lot of standing and watching when they have the ball.

I fear if we go back to Jones and Ashworth together we'll go back to a less effective offense.

Jones at point is good.
Ashworth at point is good.
Either one play in a different spot is no good.

Zero offensive rebounds for SDSU. Huge.

Here’s a crazy stat

We have played 7 MW games (2-5)
They have played 5 MW games (3-2)

We have lost by a combined 19 points in conference
They have lost by a combined 23 points in conference.

One thing after tonight is how I remember people talking about Menseh. When he came into the conference people acted like he was going to battle with Queta as a top big man. That definitely didn’t pan out.
