4 losses in The Spectrum
The Spectrum just doesn’t incite fear into opposing teams like it once did. The atmosphere used to will our guys to win games they otherwise wouldn’t have. Not the case anymore. Losing 4 games at home before February is a disgrace

Re: 4 losses in The Spectrum
This is best analysis on the board. We just aren’t good. It really is that simple. Bean is a nice third option. No one else is anything better than a bench player on a good team. We have no shot creators, shooters, defensive specialists, etc. We are vanilla in every sense.
Time to continue to support but totally disengage from caring about wins and losses.

Re: 4 losses in The Spectrum
I agree that we aren’t very good. I also remember some not very good Aggie teams beating NCAA Tournament teams in the Spectrum. No excuse for being 4-4 at home, no matter how bad our team is.

What talent? Honestly what is there for him to work with. If you put 5 white guys on the court and none of them can shoot what can the coach do to win

Re: 4 losses in The Spectrum
The attendance was good tonight. It’s unfortunate that we keep losing it home it will just lead to lowered attendance and more home losses. Even with the great football season we only went 500 at home. Losing home games is brutal like the one tonight

Sucks to lose at home. Credit Boise for hitting 2 big shots in the last minute. Team is right there but just cannot get over the hump.

Re: 4 losses in The Spectrum
True, but we had a lead with under a minute left and have now lost 5 close games in the final minute. We definitely have a flawed roster, but we should be winning some of these games.

Re: 4 losses in The Spectrum
I agree we are good enough to win some of these. So why aren’t we? I’ve come to believe if it is close we aren’t going to win. Which it seems are players are playing that way. Minimal confidence in crunch time imo.Aggie formerly in Hawaii wrote: ↑January 20th, 2022, 11:56 pmTrue, but we had a lead with under a minute left and have now lost 5 close games in the final minute. Granted this team isn't the equivalent of some teams of the past, but losing nail biters, both at home and on the road, to the best teams in the league doesn't make us a bad team. Hang in there.

Re: 4 losses in The Spectrum
I’m tired of the excuses. I think we have the type of program that can expect to win those games. It isn’t acceptable. I do t see is getting better either. Even when Stew had some clunker teams I always could see improvement. This year isn’t not building my confidence in Odom.

Re: 4 losses in The Spectrum
Odom's offense is noticeably awful. Not a lot of on-ball, off-ball, or anywhere near-ball screens. Not a lot of cutting. Imagine Stew's system, do a complete strategic 180, then subtract out most of the talent that Stew had, and you have this team.
I put Odom on at least a 38% chance of being Duryea 2.0.
But, hell, if Odom is a complete dud, but Hartwell still got us Blake, I'd say that it's still, overall, a job well done.
Here for basketball, but I've lost all feeling in my body when it comes to winning and losing.

Re: 4 losses in The Spectrum
From the way this team is trending there are four things that are becoming more of a certainty than they were prior to conference play beginning.
- Bean not only will not be the conference POTY, he will slip to the second team and no other Aggie will be as high as “Honorable Mention”
- We are going to need a turnaround to hit .500 in the conference
- Not only are we not going to the NCAA tournament we aren’t going to the NIT either
- We’ve become accustomed to playing SDS in the conference tourney. That may very well continue again this year but it won’t be in the championship game.

Re: 4 losses in The Spectrum
How much of this is due to the fact we don't offer any shooting threat which allows the defense to just guard the basket out to 18 feet? We can screen, roll, cut, down screen, slip screen, etc., all we want, but the defense isn't going to 'bite' on anything because they know we can't shoot outside of 15-18 feet so they don't have to chase us.918AGG wrote: ↑January 21st, 2022, 9:07 amOdom's offense is noticeably awful. Re: 4 losses in The Spectrum
Stew had great offensive and defensive systems. Part of the reason they worked is because they were designed in such a way that it could get better looks for guys who may not have the athleticism to turn the corner and break down the defense one-on-one. There were lots of screens, cuts, and off-ball movement that were designed to get open shots for (just gonna say it) mostly less athletic white dudes. Don't get me wrong, I love Utah State, but we have never very rarely had guys with top-end athleticism. Cardell Butler? Brady Jardine? Neemi Queta? Who else? Sam Merrill wasn't particularly athletic, but he could get to his spots and get his shot off because defenders had to respect him and play close. If they sagged off of him, he would hit them right between the eyes. I would love to have even a homeless man's Sam Merrill right now.918AGG wrote: ↑January 21st, 2022, 9:07 amOdom's offense is noticeably awful. I don't think we have a single guy on the roster who can succeed in a 5 out isolation offense. We don't have anyone that can beat an average defender to the hoop. And if you can't do that, you better be able to hit a high percentage of open outside shots to keep them honest. We can't. So this is what we get. A bunch of poor shooting, less athletic white dudes who are incapable of beating a defender off the dribble, and incapable of making the defense pay for sagging off.

Jaycee Carroll
And many more.
We can sign them if you don't have a geek squad for a coaching staff.

We have no killer on this team. No one wants anything to do with hitting the big shot.Aggie formerly in Hawaii wrote: ↑January 20th, 2022, 11:56 pmTrue, but we had a lead with under a minute left and have now lost 5 close games in the final minute. Re: 4 losses in The Spectrum
We didn’t have a consistent killer last year either but we had two guys who had moments in Marco and Worster but they both moved on. Etyle Rock was the killer at UMBC but he isn’t the big fish in a small pond anymore.aggies22 wrote: ↑January 21st, 2022, 5:25 pmWe have no killer on this team. Merrill spoiled us.
