Up 29-13

Post by Elkaggie » January 18th, 2022, 11:16 pm

With 3:42 to go in the half.. get pummeled from there on 25-48.

Did any of you think we would win after the first half?! I had zero confidence.

I thought we'd lose in the same manner we've lost all of our games but one: in the last minute with the wheels completely off, plunging like a cable car down a mineshaft.

It’s something new each game. Unfortunately we just aren’t a good team and we don’t have the guys here to make it much better next year. Need a tremendous influx of talent.

I will say the team plays hard and with good effort but we are small and not explosive on guard line outside of Bairstow. Undersized forwards and not great at center. Can’t exploit any teams weaknesses and teams can exploit ours

Sadly, I am not shocked that we lost. The team seems to play off of pure hustle and energy, but something fundamental is lacking. I am starting to agree more and more that we do not have a difference maker on the team. We have great team players and contributors, but not a difference maker who can take over the game.

I think if we do start winning close games, it will have to be by committee. 1-2 players having a good game just isn't cutting it, especially with the teams we have been playing.

Intensity and confidence during critical junctures of the game seems to nearly disappear.

Turnovers and free throws killed the 2nd half. Losing all these close games is taking a huge toll on the teams confidence. Does not get any easier.

Agreed, they looked defeated for a large portion of the second half.

Just feels like we lack an on court leader to help us get through those scoring droughts or end of game situations. Everyone’s looking for someone else to do something.

Agreed, we don't have a floor leader.

Bean has been really forcing his offense these last 5 or 6 games. I think he feels an immense pressure to be "the guy" when his game is not, necessarily, suited to be "the guy". He is best when cutting to the basket and knocking down his 15-foot jumpers. Jones and Ashworth need to step up and facilitate this offense. They need to attack the basket and find Bean and Bairstow cutting. And all of the wings have got to shoot the ball better. Our offense is a mess when we can't shoot from outside. This must be priority one in recruiting - find guys that can shoot the basketball accurately.

They attack the basket until they stop dribbling right in the middle of the key, at which point they travel or throw the ball away. It happens multiple times every game.

Yep. We have guards that can get into paint but then can’t do anything from there. Sometimes we will get some foul calls or make a good pass but you’ve got to be able to get by your guy and take it to the hoop or find the kick out open 3 and hit those

I can't believe our offensive design is to get deep into the key or under the backboard and then pick up your dribble. It is stupid.
