The USU/Boise game tonight reminded me of a Duryea coached game.

The venn diagram of people who are convinced that Craig Smith "isn't a very good basketball coach" and people who are now furious with Ryan Odom for not having the same success that Craig did in his first year is a circle, and I find it hilarious.
Haha it’s come full circle.

Craig Smith is a great ball coach who seems to struggle with recruiting. I still reserve judgement, but Odom looks to be good at neither. We need a big infusion of talent in a short period of time.

This is a big recruiting cycle coming up for Odom. At this point it is still too early to say he isn't a good recruiter. He now has coached this team for a season and knows exactly what he needs to be successful. We'll see if he can go out and get it.

When is the last time we beat SDSU by 18 and Nevada by 29?

I find it odd how much you like trying to dunk on fellow Aggie fans. I bet if I wonder over to twitter you’ve sent out a tweet as well. It gets annoying man. Enjoy the win without having to come over and say told you so.

Btw I am not saying this because I said anything in this thread that needs to get called out. You just have the same theme over and over and over and over and over and over again.

I think pointing out definite fan over reaction is a good thing. I’d trust @JonnyCienPesos over just about anyone for knowing the inner workings of the program to boot.

You are right, I am never going to make that mistake again! At least, that is my goal. I know Odom is a much better coach than Duryea, in fact I think he is even a better coach than Craig Smith. I think that is why I was so frustrated at what I was seeing on the floor, it reminded me of Duryea basketball, and I never want to go back there!!!

Sure this thread was silly and I pointed it out numerous times in this thread. It is also silly to get after fans everytime they dont evaluate players in a flattering way. Some players do deserve to be benched. Some players do hurt the team. It is fair for fans to say these things. Some things do cross lines, but most do not.

It’s a fan board. We talk Aggie sports. People share their opinions. It’s not all rainbows and butterflies.

I’m not taking sides here, but if the criticism was primarily about Odom, he’s not a kid.

I think it is possible for people to critique a player’s game or to critique another fan’s opinion without ripping on them or beating one’s chest.

Fan is short for fanatic, right? There are always going to message board meltdowns on sports message boards when things aren’t going well. That’s just the nature of the beast.

JCP needs to thank the whiny fans. Without us, he wouldn’t get the occasion to look like the heroic “fan of all fans” that knew all along everything was gonna work out okay.

Odom is a far better coach than Timmy D, but this season has been frustrating to say the least. We are not a bad team, but we are a frustrating team. Shulga is figuring it out, which bodes well. Still think we have a lot of talent problems once you get passed like roster spot 7 or 8.

We looked like a Duryea coached team, and so were they. I think BSU's offense is 100% Duryea. And it's going to come up and bite them.

He better get it figured out next season. This has been terrible. Welcome to big.boy basketball. Odom has to win me over because I’m not seeing anything positive from him.
How is the Nevada game for starters?

@Aggiestyle I'm sure you will find a lot of poor takes from me. I have nearly 20,000 posts. That is a lot of crappy content. I'm an emotional fan that acts poorly when we lose. I was cussing Blake and our football team out at times as well. I remember being very annoyed during the UNLV game.

So, we are saying that Smith was successful on the back of Duryea's recruits (Sam) and striking gold on one recruit (Queta). This combined with a weak MWC. I honestly don't really care about all of the excuses. The guy won championships and got into the NCAA tourney. I believe he would have done better than Odom is doing. It would be a step back from what we had come to expect with Smith. I believe much of that would have been due to Anthony and Worster still being on the team and continuity. I agree that Smith recruited poorly in many respects. He did bring in Queta, Worster, and Anthony. The last two have some limitations but have many strengths.

Odom was given a difficult assignment for sure. He had two starts back in Bean and Miller. His returning bench was relatively weak and unproven with Ashworth being the most successful. Odom only brought in a couple of his own guys and Rylan Jones. Horvath and Jones played really well early on. They were a big piece to our success. Now they seem to be mediocre. RJER hasn't done much all season, but we keep hearing that he will come on later in the season. Hopefully that happens before March. Bairstow had an injury that set him back. Miller is done. There have been several things that have happened this year that give me hope that Odom will get where we need to be, but he has to be willing to make this his team. I am excited to see if anyone progresses through this season. I am excited to see what the offseason brings.
I'm sorry but I'm sitting here looking back on this thread and I just don't get half of yall on here. Bearish from the first game???? Smith would be better? I'm sorry. But when he got hired I looked into Odom alot. He is a stud of a coach. Someone said "welcome to big boy basketball" or something. Odom has won a bigger game than USU has arguably ever been in in the Virginia game. "Oh he Got lucky" oh yea blew out the best team in the country on accident. His gameplan was impressive. Our team was struggling with confidence. They weren't playing to their peak. But you should also know that many of these guys aren't guys Odom would recruit. Odom needs strong ball handing players. Guys who can run the court at any position. "Our guards are too small" Odom beat Virginia a team that used the defense we used with Smith with one of the shortest players in D1 basketball. Last year he had the shortest player in D1 basketball ripping it up! He transformed that team. He has shown the ability to motivate. Seriously I don't want anyone even considering firing him until he has been given at least one season here. This forum can have alot of insightful stuff. But sometimes it's just as stupid as cougarboard. In my opinion Odom has the potential to be the best coach in usu history. If he sticks around which he probably wouldn't.

So, If I've got this right. We can criticize Dureya, Miller, Brayden Bell, Eytle, Odom, one another, Smith, and the students. But whatever you do never ever ever speak an ill word about Stew.
