Re: 13=13 (2022-23 Edition)
This is just my 2 cents, you keep jones/ashworth as backup pg, jones can improve and be a starter if you dont find a better PG. he needs to improve shooting%bullshot wrote:Who do you not recruit over?
Bairstow is starter material in the MW.
I assume Bean is gone.
The rest can be recruited over if you can find better players.
So far looks like Falslev is the only Odom recruit coming in next year.
I hope Hartwell has a recruiting over conversation with Odom, ... and encourage it.
Lastly, if you cant find 3-4 new forwards/C, i vote to keep Dorius and Zapala and keep developing them.
Heck throw Potter and Zee out there see if they can put up more than 10 points in a game.

Still no offer from the Aggies. We could use a solid center for next year and this guy continues to rise up the rankings.

13 is 13
Based on current scholarships and what has been announced (count):
Pg: ashworth, jones
Sg: rj, shulga
Sf: bairstow, zee
Pf: thelissen, potter
C: zapala, dorius
Recruits: Falslev
Total: 11
Confirmed leaving: horvath, bean and miller
I get it some of the above might still move on. However this is what we currently have. 2 open spots.

Re: 13 is 13
Looking at the group above, highest priority in my mind is a 4 and 5 who can contribute right away. Followed by a guard/wing guy.

I’m kinda surprised we haven’t seen an announcement yet from a guy entering the portal. Seems like almost all teams lose a few from the bench each year.

Yeah, it seems like most teams that aren’t still playing have started their roster spring cleaning and have a guy or two in the portal. Hopefully today’s the day.SwaggieAggie wrote: ↑March 24th, 2022, 7:39 amI’m kinda surprised we haven’t seen an announcement yet from a guy entering the portal. Not to be a broken record, but whoever we add, at whatever position, I hope their addition to the team improves the team's ability to shoot from the outside.

Our bench isn't very good. I'm sure they don't see any prospects outside of their current situation. They are just going to stick around until someone tells them they must leave.

I wouldn’t hate the idea to have Bairstow add some weight and play the 4. He likes to post up anyway and struggled shooting the 3. Of course he would have to buy in which is tricky nowadays

I'm going to tack these posts on to a previous thread that had a lot of info. I'll also update the roster and openings at the start of that thread.

I just noticed you have Dallin Grant on that list. He's still one more year out and when he returns he will definitely be on scholarship.

OK good catch. For some reason I thought we offered him a preferred walk-on spot... Maybe I was thinking of Wickizer, another player with Aggie lineage or something... I've got too much on my mind.

Re: 13=13 (2022-23 Edition)
Overall I really do trust Odom and staff (they've got a lot more riding on the success of USU basketball than I do) but not offering John yet has me scratching my head a bit. They know more than I do, so hopefully it means they really feel like they have a very good shot at someone better. But John is a solid player at a position of need that would quite likely accept a USU offer.

Re: 13=13 (2022-23 Edition)
I don't think Nigel plays the way Odom wants to play. He seems to want spacing. John doesn't provide that. Just guessing, though.3rdGenAggie wrote: ↑March 24th, 2022, 11:33 amOverall I really do trust Odom and staff (they've got a lot more riding on the success of USU basketball than I do) but not offering John yet has me scratching my head a bit. Hopefully this isn't like when Brent Guy said he didn't play Turbin because he was too much of a "downhill runner".

Re: 13=13 (2022-23 Edition)
Rangy 5's are great, but 5's that can shoot and bang down low on defense are hard to come by.
Right now one of our biggest issues is being beaten up down low by decent bigs. Defense from that spot should be the priority over offense if you can't find both.

That Mahomes fella has too strong of an arm, so we passed. We like qb's who need to crow-hop to throw a 10 yard out.

Re: 13=13 (2022-23 Edition)
So we have 4 or 5 seniors(depending on RJ). How many of them have a covid year left vs this will for sure be their last year?
Are RJ and Funk the only 2 covid seniors?

Re: 13=13 (2022-23 Edition)
If RJER truly does come back I would be ok with that. I thought he progressed as the season went on especially not forcing it as much as he did earlier in the season. I would hope he spends time this offseason trying get his body more in shape. If he could average 10-12 points per game next season that would be really beneficial.aggies22 wrote: ↑April 4th, 2022, 8:37 amAt this point in time, I think RJ will be coming back.ineptimusprime wrote: ↑April 3rd, 2022, 4:47 pmAre you announcing RJ’s return?aggies22 wrote: ↑April 1st, 2022, 12:26 pmYes. I dont know all the details which has been discussed, has it been revealed that Odom is willing to show some non-developing, non-MW players the door?treesap32 wrote:Updated the OP to include Isaac Johnson
If not, what’s the expectation for this roster next season? 8-10th place?? (Just looking at reality here)
If he is looking to still sign a couple or three guys, which guards or wings has the staff been offering??
If im out of my depth here and we sincerely think these 12 signed players are ready, just let us know. I can reserve offering my 2 cents with the current roster going forward.
If we can discuss without people getting upset, which group are likely going to start, be our 6th man, who is our go to scorer? And which guys will be key in the 7-8 man rotation?

What are you talking about? I’ve been told today that all our players would be highly sought after and would have lots of offers to pay elsewhere if they wanted.
If that’s the case, the sky is limit. Top 3 in conference next year for sure.
