Brock Miller
He was the last truly good 3-point shooter we had, and he had a breakout year in the 20-21 season where his offense and defense really improved with a 3-point shooting percentage of 43.5 during that season. It looked like the Queta and Miller led team that we were going to win the conference for a third year then the unthinkable happened in February of 2021 with a career-ending back injury that Miller tried to play through the pain. Miller put his heart and soul on the court that helped us to get us at least 3 NCAA tournament bids. Miller was one of the guys that got us there.
This is my thanks to Miller.

Re: Brock Retired
He really put the work in to be great, and he was carrying our guards for some time after losing Porter, Brito, and Merrill.Stucki wrote: ↑January 17th, 2022, 9:34 pmWhat many of you are missing is that Brock shot well enough that he had the respect of other teams to create gravity that gave our other players more room to for their own shots and also helped create driving lanes. We no longer have that on the perimeter unless Shulga or Bairstow start hitting enough shots that they don't get left by their defender.
Brock also was much better defensively than most of you recognize. He was very good at trailing other team's shooters, not allowing them room to shoot and he was quite good at using his length on that end as well.
This will really hurt our team.

Re: Brock Retired
Sucks for him that his career ends this way. He probably had plans to stick around for a few more years.
Fact is, he was a mediocre basketball payer (at best) whose shooting slumps and defensive inabilities really hurt our team. No doubt bad coaching (in the way he was utilized), lack of development, lack of athleticism, and bad luck (injury-wise) held him back from becoming the high-level prospect we'd hoped for coming out of high school.
Nevertheless, he tried hard, was a good teammate and program ambassador. The good news is, it seems he's winning in his personal life and no doubt his time with the Aggies will open up a lot of doors for him in the future. Best wishes!
Now can we PLEASE move on and get someone in there who can actually hit a fu*king 3-point shot?!!

Re: Brock Retired
I got a text from someone last spring who knew exactly what his back injury was and it was pretty serious. I was honestly surprised he didn't hang it up over the summer. Best of luck in the future.

Re: Brock Retired
You are ignoring his first two FULL seasons where he shot 36%, while concentrating solely on two months of his career.SLB wrote: ↑January 17th, 2022, 9:07 pmMost of last season, he shot 43.5% from 3. The back injury sunk Miller's stats.FloridaAggie13 wrote: ↑January 17th, 2022, 7:29 pmI looked at his entire career on ESPN Stats. Sure, we can look at a block of games where he shot really well, but those are an outlier when compared to the rest of his career. When he was getting a lot of time in 2018-19, and '19-20, he was a 35% shooter from three, same as last year.SLB wrote: ↑January 17th, 2022, 7:05 pmHe shot 43.5% from 3 in the season before the back injury. I did the math on this. If you don't believe me, you could go and check it out.FloridaAggie13 wrote: ↑January 17th, 2022, 3:51 pmAt no point in his career, even before the back injury, was he ever better than a 36.5% shooter from 3.SLB wrote: ↑January 17th, 2022, 3:47 pmHe would have been if he didn't have that back injury. I pointed this out before in the season when Miller had his back injury, before the back injury, he shot 43.5 % from 3.AggiesForever wrote: ↑January 17th, 2022, 3:25 pmHe was definitely one of the most prolific "shooters" in USU history who, when on a roll, could rack up a lot of points in a hurry. Unfortunately, those "rolls" were well spaced.Aglicious wrote: ↑January 16th, 2022, 11:25 pmI only hope that missing the rest of the season won't mean we have to listen to dilweed announcers go on and on about how we are without one of the most prolific 3-point shooters in program history. I guess it comes down to how you define prolific. I think he's like 4th in school history in 3-point attempts but doesn't even appear on the top 25 in 3pt%.
I've been watching USU basketball since the 1960's. He was not one of our most prolific scorers. He was a solid roll player.
I had a good conversation with several members of the coaching staff the other day. They know exactly what this team needs and plan to address it in the spring signing period, as well as throughout the summer as opportunities present themselves. They are not the dufuses some of you seem to think they are.
His back injury happened after the Fresno State game 2/4/21.
After his back injury last season, Miller shot 13/55 on 3s. (23.6%)
Before that, Miller was 44/101 on 3s. (43.5 %)
You guys making me do the math all over again and again. Sheesh

Re: Brock Retired
Three point percentage only needs to be 33% to be considered a good and efficient shot. 33% equates to 1 point per possession, which is effectively the same as shooting 50% from a 2 point shot. And remember that 50% two point shooting average is widely considered to be really good.
There is a huge disparity in the efficiencies of three point shots versus two point shots. This is why the NBA (and college teams are following suit) shoot exponentially more 3 pointers than they did 15 or 20 years ago. It isn't because shooters are suddenly three point snipers..
This is why Odom has the team keep hucking threes even when we shoot like crap (and lately our team three point average is so bad that threes are not efficient shots).
Any player (who averages at least 33% from three) who takes a shot in rhythm within the offense, is statically considered to be an efficient shot. It is a better option to have a 33% three point shot than a 45% two point shot.
I love three point snipers as much as anyone else, but going by the math, many of us have too high of a standard for three point shooters statistically.
People like Jaycee or Sam or Brian Green are truly remarkable and crazy efficient statically. Brock was definitely a solid role player whose shots were statically a good option. Best of luck to Brock and hope he heals up and isn't in pain the rest of his life.

May not of been a great defender, light years ahead where Shulga and Zee are now, but maybe a step below Bairstow.Blitz79 wrote:No, his defense was terrible. His effort was superb.

Re: Brock Retired
I will always appreciate a good role player on a multiple championship team. My favorite Brock moment was those two 3 pointers vs Oklahoma. That was super clutch. Even with the ups and downs, he will be missed by me.

Re: Brock Retired
Haven’t we lost every game this season since he has been out?
Didn’t we win 2 MW championships and 3 tournament births with him?
Dude had a fantastic career here and without him we lose a ton of big games and don’t even see those championships. Never understood why aggies have been so critical of a good player with a lot of accolades to his name.

This. Look no further than tonight. His leadership, experience, shooting, FT % and even his defense. We miss him big time especially right now.Winning Team wrote: ↑January 18th, 2022, 11:10 pmHaven’t we lost every game this season since he has been out?

Re: Brock Retired
We beat New Mexico without him. As for Aggies being critical, you could always flip that around. Read this thread. He has a ton of fans who think he is an all time Aggie great. Nobody should feel bad for how the fanbase has treated Brock Miller.Winning Team wrote: ↑January 18th, 2022, 11:10 pmHaven’t we lost every game this season since he has been out?

Re: Brock Retired
They said in tonight's broadcast that Odom said they hope he'll be back in February. How sure is the OP that Miller is done?

Re: Brock Retired
Respectfully, by the time February rolls around there isn’t going to be much reason for Brock to put his health on the line to play basketball. Risking your future health playing your last season for a .500 D1 basketball team isn’t worth it. Hang ‘er up, Brock.
Minutes Brock could play are better spent figuring out whether or not Zee or Shulga is worth keeping around next year.

Re: Brock Retired
If he's not done I want him back for the MWC tourney. Sure we are 1-4 in conference but all those games were winnable and I think we Brock we win 2 more of them. Much different outlook on the team now if we are 3-2 vs. 1-4. This team can still make a run in the conference tournament. We haven't got blown out and have been missing 2 starters the last 3-4 games. With the starters back and if someone can figure out how to get Horvath to make a FT or anyone to hit the front end of a 1-1 then no one will want to play us in the tourney and we have a fighting chance. Even just getting 3pt% to 30% and we would be 5-0 in conference.
Re: Brock Retired
I think Brock's defense is okay. He hustles on D and doesn't get beaten by watching the ball instead of his player. Plus he has decent length for his position. His shooting, on the other hand, drives me crazy. Just too inconsistent.
