Re: 500 season?
Yeah, going through the remaining games and the outcomes I’d predict, I come up with 15-15.

Re: 500 season?
At this point I would be happy with a .500 season. There really are no gimme games left with how inconsistent this team is.

Re: 500 season?
There are those that have said that they’re OK with the Aggies not making the NCAA tourney this year and would prefer just to go make some waves in the NIT. I’ve got some news — to go to the NIT will require at least a top 5 finish in the conference and we’re now playing to keep from being in the lower one-third.

Re: 500 season?
Our NET is at 61. Our conference is the strongest it’s been since we’ve been in the league. We are going to have some surprising wins, and likely a few more losses. I’d say right now we are an NIT team. We aren’t as bad as a lot of us feel right now. We have some solid players and just played two of the top teams in the league right down to the buzzer. The ball didn’t bounce our way this time, but it will start to happen.

Re: 500 season?
It is much harder to make the NIT than many realize. Right now we would not be an NIT team at 10-7, 1-3. We have serious work to do to be in that conversation. To put it in perspective, here are the recent MW NIT teams and their record:flying_scotsman2.0 wrote: ↑January 16th, 2022, 1:24 pmOur NET is at 61. 2021
Boise State 18-8, 14-6
CSU 18-6, 14-4
2018
Boise State 23-9, 13-5
2017
Colorado State 23-11, 13-5
Boise State 20-11, 12-6
Fresno State 20-12, 11-7
2016
San Diego State 25-9, 17-1
As UTAggies said, you pretty much have to be a top 4 team in the league with a good conference record.

Re: 500 season?
:
13 games left. I’m guessing they finish up 7-6 over those 13 games. So 17-13 and maybe, just maybe a trip to the NIT. It will be close though, I’m not confident a losing conference record gets the Aggies in.

Re: 500 season?
I think the top 5-6 teams in the league this year will be going to the post season. Again, this is the strongest our league has been since we’ve been in it. But I suppose we’ll see what happens

Re: 500 season?
One thing in our favor this year is the league had EVERY SINGLE TEAM above .500 in OOC play, something that hasn't been able to be said about the league in the past.

Re: 500 season?
I'm pretty close to the point where I feel the Aggies need to win the MWC tournament to get into the big dance. Outside of that I think the NIT berth is still attainable, but we're going to have to make sure we're top four or five in the league like some of you have said. Keep in mind though that last year's NIT was 16 teams only. I have a feeling this year it's going to be back to a full 32 teams which will make it easier for us to get in. I agree with one other poster who said 17-13 looks like it could be the final regular season record unless we get that game back at home against SJSU which will make it 18-13. With that regular season record and getting a couple wins in the MWC tournament, I think we'll probably be okay getting into the NIT. At least we would be an NIT bubble team.

Re: 500 season?
With four games into the conference scheduling, I like to see a little more conference games before I make the full out declaration. Judging by what I see on the court recently, we don't look like an NCAA tournament team, but when this team is at their best they can compete with anybody in this conference. I want to see if they somehow re-discover that beyond four games into their conference schedule before I jump onto this team has to win the Mountain West Conference tournament to get in. Like I said I'm pretty close to making that determination that they have to. These next three games are going to be critical with Fresno State, Boise State, and San Diego State. If the Aggies could win two out of three of those, then the at large bid may still be alive although still dim. Tall task, but at least when it comes to Fresno State and Boise State I think USU is good enough to beat those teams on a good night. I understand the skepticism going into those games, but I want to see the results first.2004AG wrote: ↑January 17th, 2022, 8:50 amYou’re only “close” to that point ?Aggiealum13 wrote:I'm pretty close to the point where I feel the Aggies need to win the MWC tournament to get into the big dance. Re: 500 season?
There is no way this team gets in the NCAA unless we win the tourney. We also don't get in the NIT unless we are around the 10 loss mark. 17-13 or 18-13 does not get a sniff at NIT.

Re: 500 season?
We shall see. We also played two of the worst teams in the league right down to the buzzer. I will be surprised if Wyoming finishes in the Top 4 in the MWC.flying_scotsman2.0 wrote: ↑January 16th, 2022, 1:24 pmOur NET is at 61. Re: 500 season?
I think we should resign ourselves to the fact that post season basketball is not in this team's future in 2022. We need to develop young players and hit the recruiting trail hard in search of guys that can score. We need outside shooting. We need guys that can get to the rim. We need guys that can rebound. We need guys that can defend - both in the post and on the perimeter. There are so many holes that need to be filled.

Re: 500 season?
I'm way past that point. We have a good team this year, but not a great team. Just too many holes to fill in this transition year for Coach Odom.Aggiealum13 wrote: ↑January 17th, 2022, 8:43 amI'm pretty close to the point where I feel the Aggies need to win the MWC tournament to get into the big dance.
Need to be recruiting a certified scorer for next year, as well as some up front muscle that can walk and chew gum.

I think you're safe to just go ahead and arrive at the conclusion that the dream of the NCAA tourney is over.Aggiealum13 wrote: ↑January 17th, 2022, 9:05 amWith four games into the conference scheduling, I like to see a little more conference games before I make the full out declaration. You’re all cowards. We’re going to get an at-large, mark it down.
Scratch that, we’re going to win the conference tournament too.
