The team was better in November

Post by LoveMyAggies » January 15th, 2022, 9:20 pm

The guards (1-3) are shooting horrid from behind the arc.

Horvath has regressed, imho. He has played better than this. The league is figuring out how to contain Bean, with a better supporting cast Bean gets 25-13rb a night. Now he’s being held less than 20 and we lose.

When I said a good year is us winning 22+ games.

This was me expecting we win 90% home mwc games and 45-50% road games.

We need to get SJSU back onto home schedule.

Our deficits are poor 3-pt shooting consistently. Jones and the others 1-3 should be able to develop within the offense 35-40% 3pr capabilities. They are not even close. Maybe classes and studying or other life activities have become more important than practice?? I expect them to be much better shooters than this. Be the good shooters you can be.

And we don’t have a true reliable go to clutch scorer, on this team. Most close games are going to go the other teams way.

Props to moldenado and their coach seeing the mismatch. We needed this win. Now a win at their place is much more desperate.

Its good to see the parity in the conference, last game CSU and now WYO.

At least we don’t Miller out there shooting. Am I right?

I'm actually really smart, probably smarter than you are so if you disagree with what I have stated in this post, you are likely wrong (and dumb).

The Spectrum just isn’t a tough place to win anymore. Aside from the SDSU/Nevada week in 2019 it is a pretty meh environment these days.

Yeah November was fun. Won a tournament that had the first place A 10 team in it and did so by beating a 15-2 NMSU team and Oklahoma. Maybe we should play our home games on the east coast.

Yes he really rocked it against air force. What are you trying to say? It would be better if Brock was out there bricking shots as well?

Compared to the rest of the conference, still the best atmosphere by a mile

Agree, looked better earlier on. Don’t agree teams shutting down Bean. 19 points and 13 rebounds helluva game. Bean had 13 points in the first half. Bean shot the first shot of the second half and missed. Did not get a decent look at the basket until 61/2 minutes left in the game. It doesn’t seem like we really run a play for Bean that often.
Maybe our offense is the other teams best defense against him?

The Pit is better IMO. They haven’t had the success recently but their fan base is the most loyal in the conference.

Jones was 4-10 from three tonight. The problem is when one guy is on, the rest are off. We just can't get two or three guys to be consistent from outside, at the same time. I did like seeing Jones being more aggressive offensively.

Also, Bairstow should be a permanent starter. He's a beast inside the lane.

They do have loyal fans, but in terms of atmosphere the PIT is way down from years ago. The Spectrum is still a good environment and a tough place to play. There are probably 8 other teams in the conference that would trade their atmosphere for the spectrum's.

Didn't bairstow shoot around 40% from three last year? He is terrible this year from outside. Was it his shooting wrist that he broke l?

He was a pretty good shooter from 3 last year. ON the bright side Bairstow was not good at keeping control while driving and struggled at the rim last year. He also turned the ball over or lost control of it on drives. This year he has been under a lot more control and has been able to use his size to get to the rim and finish with consistency. If/when he starts shooting the 3 better he will probably be our most dynamic playmaker on offense. Hopefully that comes because we need offense in a bad way.

I was saying before in the season, he had a higher point and rebound average, the conf has begun containing him, and daring the rest of the team to beat them.

If the team could space the floor with 5+ more 3’s he likely scores 25+ a game and we win the games like St Mary’s and Wyoming. And probably Afa.

The team 2-3 years ago had better spacing and shooting% beyond the arc.

Look at our close losses, our 3’s are hurting us. And many times the offense becomes 1 on 1 ball. We should have 4-5 better sets that produce lay-ups for Horvath, Dorius and Bean. Those plays are missing.

Its a lot of iso action and this team doesn’t have the personnel to execute that style of play.

An extra 5-8 points from Bean on set plays likely gets us to 3-4 more wins than we have now.

Odom should easily be able to see this he is smart enough. Will he make the adjustments, alongside better fundamental shooting by the 1-3 guards to space the floor.

I agree that we’re trying to play isolation ball. Definitely not working and we need to start shooting better outside shots to open up things in the middle. My point about Bean is that I don’t think they’re necessarily containing him as much as they’re just containing the Aggies. I think we actually agree on our overall perception of what’s happening with Aggie basketball. Perhaps were just saying it in different ways.

Problem with that is neither Horvath or Dorius can make layups. I didn’t think it was that hard, but apparently it is.

We used to be able to spread teams out and shoot threes and we would get a lot of easy baskets on cuts. We could penetrate and when defenses would help on the drive, the guy being guarded by the help defender would cut to the baker and get a layup off the pass.

Now, defenses don't even bother to guard us at the three point line. They are daring us to shoot and pack the lane prevent the drive and take away the cuts. We onlige by clanking three point shots off the rim.
