Re: Queta
Queta had a huge play to get the Kings the ball back with 15 sec but Fox couldn’t hit the game winner. He had some good putbacks and overall played pretty good for getting the most minutes in his young career. He had 11 points and 5 rebounds as well as an assist and a steal.

Thanks for sharing the video. Queta is a good dude. Hopefully he can keep performing well and find a niche in the NBA.

I wonder if going up against three 7 footers had a lot to do with Nemi getting minutes. Hopefully it transitions into continued playing time down the stretch.

Re: Queta
Speaking of which, last time I was in the Spectrum I looked at the retired numbers and realized the most recent player with his jersey retired is Greg Grant that played from 83-86. There have been a few players that have played since then that I would think warrant consideration.OrangeCountyAggie wrote: ↑January 11th, 2022, 1:19 pmAggie legend! Jaycee Carroll I would think is a no brainer. Tai Wesley? Sam and Neemi I would think would be sure things. Any others? Is it typical to wait until the player has retired from the game for a number of years before retiring their number?

I could see an argument for Queta, but I don't think he is there either.

Re: Queta
Nah, they fit the bill. Teachable, focused on fundamentals, not going to have issues off the court, played defense, coachable, teamwork and passing versus athleticism... Not that Tai needed to fit the bill, being from the pre-Smith era.andytheaggie wrote: ↑January 11th, 2022, 6:38 pmTai and Neemi definitely not OKGs...LarryTheAggie wrote:Yeah, Jaycee and probably Sam. Re: Queta
I wouldn't discount Tai so easily. Tai is easily one of the all-time greats. He is top 10 in 13 career categories for the Aggies. Top 12 in 15. He's on the list for pretty much every main category. Points, Assists, Steals, Blocks, Rebounds. And his efficiency was off the charts (5th All-Time in Career Field Goal Percentage). He did everything for us on the court. Extreme efficiency, toughness, defense. He came in and pretty much started his entire career (all but 11 games, one of which where he came off the bench to allow Seniors to start on Senior Night).LarryTheAggie wrote: ↑January 11th, 2022, 1:59 pmYeah, Jaycee and probably Sam. For comparison sake, Jaycee Carroll is top 10 in 16 career categories, the majority of which are scoring categories. He ended up 14th in rebounds (pretty incredible for a guard) and 20th in assists. Jaycee is also top 5 in 12 of those categories, and #1 all-time in 8 career categories. He's on 28 single-season categories, all of which have to do with scoring except for minutes played, games started, and minutes per game.
http://www.usustats.com/players/Jaycee+Carroll
Sam Merrill is top 10 in 15 career categories. Mostly scoring categories, but he clocks in at #2 in assists and #7 in steals. He is also top 5 in 12 categories like Jaycee. He's on 26 single-season leaderboards, mostly for scoring, but 5 for assists and assist-to-turnover ratio.

Re: Queta
Yep, Tai is very underrated. His scoring wasn't up with Jaycee and Merrill, but as you point out he did everything and was the anchor of the greatest four years(as far as total wins) in USU history including only losing once in the Spectrum in 4 years.treesap32 wrote: ↑January 11th, 2022, 11:06 pmI wouldn't discount Tai so easily. Re: Queta
Queta deserves to have his jersey retired. Let’s be honest, any Utah State player who gets drafted belongs in the rafters. Queta helped us get to the tourney 3 years and put up unreal numbers. Had he not played with Sam it wouldn’t be a question but I feel like his impact is overlooked a bit.

Against a Sweet Sixteen byu team, Wesley only played 25 minutes before fouling out, but still scored 19 on 9/11 shooting in what would be a close loss.
Against Georgetown, the team lost by 17, but the game was neck and neck until Wesley got in foul trouble. He only played 20 minutes before fouling out.
Our 1 conference loss that year was in Idaho where Wesley had a double double, but again fouled out in a close game.
In the NCAA tournament, he played great. Led the game in rebouding and had 18 pts on 7-10 shooting, but you guessed it, more foul trouble. He fouled out again in a close loss.
Utah State went undefeated in 2010-11 when Wesley didn't foul out of a game and I would bet money USU was in the + in all four of those losses when he was on the court. He deserves to be considered among the Aggie greats and as one of the most valuable players to his team in USU history. His only negative was of course constantly getting into foul trouble.

Re: Queta
Waiting for him to make his way back to the states and give back to the program I honestly don't know. When he finished out in the Spectrum I think they said it had to be 5 years before they would retire a number. No question he should be retired. I would retire Sam and Queta as well. Tai probably should be but for whatever reason he has gotten lost in the mix.bigwilly087 wrote: ↑January 13th, 2022, 3:50 pmIt sounds like at least everyone can agree with Jaycee needing to go up there...what are they waiting for?

Re: Queta
Just to be clear, we have 2 retired NUMBERS. The others are retired JERSEYS.
I think you could retire the jersey for some of these individuals as I think that is still an honor. Grant’s jersey is retired, so Sam $ Merrill could still wear that number.

Re: Queta
Jaycee was at the Wyoming game.pilotaggie wrote: ↑January 15th, 2022, 12:52 pmWaiting for him to make his way back to the states and give back to the program I honestly don't know.

Re: Queta
If both Grant and Merrill used that number, then it definitely needs to be retired. Either that, or it has to be earned, like you have to be an active player in the top 10 all time in a few categories to be allowed to wear it, or something like that.Aggiefan33 wrote: ↑January 17th, 2022, 9:15 amJust to be clear, we have 2 retired NUMBERS. The others are retired JERSEYS.
I think you could retire the jersey for some of these individuals as I think that is still an honor. Grant’s jersey is retired, so Sam $ Merrill could still wear that number.
