A good stretch

Post by SectionBAggie » December 13th, 2021, 10:02 pm

Having married a Lobo, I have always followed them pretty closely. And I spend some time reading their board. Knowing that most message board posters are avid fans, it still surprises me how many on their board really seem to believe that they are going to finish high in the MWC even this year - mostly based on history.

It got me wondering about losing records and MWC teams. So I spent too much time (until I found the right spot) looking up when each team in the MWC last had a losing record. With only 1 exception (SDSU), every conference team has had at least 1 losing record since USU joined the conference.
So I thought, how about the one before that? And I realized that USU has been pretty good (or really good) for a long time.

I'm going to insert some spaces so that you can think about when those seasons would have been.

Ordered by least time since the team had a second losing season.

Team Most Recent Second Most Recent
AFA 2021 2020
SJSU 2021 2020
UNM 2021 2019
WYO 2020 2019
CSU 2019 2018
UNLV 2021 2017
FSU 2020 2015
UN 2015 2014
BSU 2019 2012
SDSU 2005 2004
USU 2017 1993

I know that lots of factors come into play and that a .500 or better record is a low bar. But it's still intriguing to me that no regular student at USU was alive for the second most recent occurrence in Logan.

For a quick comparison:
NMSU 2011 2005
Utah 2021 2013
BYU 2005 1999
