After some thought wanted to see how we are faring as a conference vs our competition. Obviously just looking at records can be skewed depending on matchup but thought this would be a good tracker considering the early success of the conference:

To be fair 3 of those wins are against cal and Washington which both are supposedly not very good this year.ineptimusprime wrote: ↑November 25th, 2021, 11:14 amConference of champions=MW doormat in basketball and football this year

New Mexico took a solid uab team to the end. They are improved. In there starters they have a ku transfer center, a tcu transfer wing, The mashburn kid from Minnesota and the house kid from asu. If they gel they could be very good.

Re: MWC OOC
Yeah, they had a legit chance at winning that game down the stretch. I think House had a really bad shooting night and forced too many things down the stretch. That center will cause us problems.slcagg wrote:New Mexico took a solid uab team to the end. They are improved. San Diego state blows out Georgetown. Outside of Georgetown being a hat in the mall not sure how great they are. SDSU gets a ranked usc today.

Fresno lost to cal tonight. Disappointing loss considering where cal is at. Now at 4-5 vs pac12 (lost 3 straight).

New Mexico with the nice road win in las cruces last night. I really think New Mexico is improved and will be close to 100 net (last year they were around 300).
And Nevada finally beat a wcc team!
And San Jose wins again! Tim miles might actually win some games there.

That Boise loss to Saint Louis in OT last night was a bummer. They had a shot a the buzzer to win.

I am in the opposite crowd, anytime Boise and their self centered coach (Rice) lose it is a good day. I hope they lose every game. Certainly it doesn't help the conference, but I could care less.slcagg wrote: ↑December 1st, 2021, 7:59 amYeah that was the win we needed last night.Roy McAvoy wrote: ↑December 1st, 2021, 7:34 amThat Boise loss to Saint Louis in OT last night was a bummer. Re: MWC OOC
Undefeated day yesterday for the league.
Csu with the nice win against Mississippi state
San Jose wins another against pacific and Alphonso Anderson
Fresno beats what may be the best big west team in Irvine
And Wyoming beats uvu by double digits. Wyomings center is killing it.

Re: MWC OOC
Now it’s all done..
Average Conference NET: 111.37 (7th)
26 - CSU
33 - WYO
50 - FSU
56 - USU
63 - SDSU
68 - BSU
129 - UNR
142 - UNLV
170 - UNM
227 - SJSU
266 - AFA
All in all, a really good performance. Had some really good wins by each team.
(ALL CAPS indicate best wins of conference)
USU: Richmond, nmsu, OKLAHOMA
CSU: Creighton, ST. MARY’S, MISS ST.
WYO: Grand Canyon, uvu
FSU: Santa Clara
SDSU: ST. MARY’S
BSU: uvu, Santa Clara, WASH ST.
UNR: George Mason
UNLV: Cal
UNM: nmsu
SJSU:
AFA:
We missed a few as a conference we should have had. (Picked games reasonable could have won and bad losses..)
USU:UC Davis and St Marys.
CSU: didn’t play against Alabama.
WYO: lost to Stanford.
FSU: lost to Utah and Cal.
BSU: UCI, ST Bonny, Cal State
UNR: everything in November, Grand Canyon
UNLV: tough call, maybe SMU
UNM: NMSU, UTEP, SMU
SJSU: Pepperdine, Cal Baptist
AFA: South Dakota, Montana, Arky St.
Right now, I would rank the conference as follows based on wins and losses and how I think it will play out.
CSU - good wins, no losses
USU - best win in conference
SDSU - only lost to top40 teams.
WYO - paper tigers?
FSU - one decent win, no bad losses
BSU - struggled early, playing better
UNR - has struggled but has talent
UNLV
UNM
SJSU
AFA
Good job MWC. Now we need the Aggies to dominate all the lower teams (UNR and below) and we need to win all home games and we need to steal at least half of the road games. That would put us at:
Q1: 5-4
Q2: 6-1
Q3: 5-0
Q4: 8-1
I think that gets us in and I think CSU and one other team has risen to the top for an at large bid. I would guess SDSU or BSU right now.
Thoughts? Impressions?

It’s Nevada that I’m worried about though your NET isn’t horrendous. I think I talked about it in another thread but I think you guys have a NET/talent disparity and pose the greatest threat for at large hopefuls. 1/29 is a dangerous game for USU.nvspuds wrote:The good news is you can get some good wins in conference..The bad news is there are plenty of really horrendous loss possibilities too..

Re: MWC OOC
Hard to say with the Pack..Should be a tough out at home though..They have really stepped up on defense but don't get much scoring outside of the big 4..
Sherfield and Cambridge have been more efficient shooters so far..Washington has added some shot blocking to his rim protection and Baker has been really solid.
The rest of the guys are basically role players..Up and down..

You guys pay too much attention to OOC. The MWC will get two bids. No more. No less.
The MWC is not a regional hegemon in college athletics. Therefore, it won't get more than two bids anytime soon.

Re: MWC OOC
The only way the MWC gets two bids or more bids is from the OOC performance. We have had 2 bids the last few years with not great OOC performances. This year is a different story. I think we are a lock for 3 bids with the OOC that we have had this year, 4 if someone other than the at large wins the tourney.AggieFBObsession wrote:You guys pay too much attention to OOC. Re: MWC OOC
I think for sure we’re a three bid league this year as well. Heck, had it not been for bid stealers last season we would’ve had 3 three teams. CSU was a spot or two away from making it.scotlandog wrote: ↑December 25th, 2021, 8:04 pmThe only way the MWC gets two bids or more bids is from the OOC performance. Re: MWC OOC
I'd be happy to make you a friendly bet about this. If Utah State were in the PAC 12, I'd be singing a different tune. And I don't disagree with your points about the stronger performances. That said, you buy too much into the pundits talking about how NET ratings matter. They don't. They are just used as a way for the selection committee to justify multiple power conference bids. They use the ratings conveniently the way they want and leave other deserving teams out when they want and turn a blind eye to it.scotlandog wrote: ↑December 25th, 2021, 8:04 pmThe only way the MWC gets two bids or more bids is from the OOC performance. Re: MWC OOC
I have no doubt that between 2 teams with similar rankings the bid will go to the Power Conference team. But since the NET was implemented, the NET has been a very accurate predictor for teams making the field, and even seeding. I will follow the NET and focus on Q1/Q2 wins. Feel free to look elsewhere for your bearings or predictions.flying_scotsman2.0 wrote:The past few years it seems we’ve been treated fairly by the selection committee… although I have no doubt they do what they can to benefit the big conferencesAggieFBObsession wrote: ↑December 25th, 2021, 8:51 pmI'd be happy to make you a friendly bet about this. They use the ratings conveniently the way they want and leave other deserving teams out when they want and turn a blind eye to it.scotlandog wrote: ↑December 25th, 2021, 8:04 pmThe only way the MWC gets two bids or more bids is from the OOC performance. We have had 2 bids the last few years with not great OOC performances. This year is a different story. I think we are a lock for 3 bids with the OOC that we have had this year, 4 if someone other than the at large wins the tourney.AggieFBObsession wrote:You guys pay too much attention to OOC. The MWC will get two bids. No more. No less.
The MWC is not a regional hegemon in college athletics. Therefore, it won't get more than two bids anytime soon.
