Re: Recruiting for 2022.
I saw Coach Odom with a recruit and his family eating breakfast at Stacked on Friday morning. As far as I can tell, it wasn't someone previously referenced in this thread. I have no idea who he was, or if this is who @aggies22 is referencing. But, if it is him, I would guess he was a good sized small forward.

It can guarantee you, it is NOT who I am referencing. Possibly Josh Jefferson from Liberty High in Las Vegas?RabidAggie wrote: ↑October 5th, 2021, 9:17 amI saw Coach Odom with a recruit and his family eating breakfast at Stacked on Friday morning. Who's the tall blonde kid from Utah that we were interested in? The one where someone posted a picture of both Coach Smith and Coach Odom watching him during some sort of summer league?

Recruiting for 2022.
I don’t know. BYU will be in a better hoops conference than all the others on that list. PAC12 had a nice run last March but even after realignment, the Big12 will be better than the PAC. Plus Pope is a convincing recruiter. I was thinking he wouldn’t be at Provo much longer but now I wonder if he could be.Bank Shot wrote:Oregon, Stanford, Utah, BYU, Gonzaga, and Arizona were the 6 that made his final cut. I wouldn't get my hopes up if I were Ute or Cougar fan.

Re: Recruiting for 2022.
I have been down on the sidelines for football games and I've seen the basketball coaches down there with several recruits and their parents. I'm definitely seeing more activity there on the recruiting side than I saw from Smith & his staff.
The recruit that has stood out to me the most was this dude. He was impressive physically.

Re: Recruiting for 2022.
That's half of the reason I don't think Utah or Provo have a good chance. The other half is that if your goal is to have nearly a 100% chance of being in the tourney every year and also a decent chance at a Final Four or two, how do you say no to Gonzaga.Chupamedia wrote: ↑October 8th, 2021, 1:25 pmIf you get a full ride to Stanford how do you pass that up?Bank Shot wrote:Oregon, Stanford, Utah, BYU, Gonzaga, and Arizona were the 6 that made his final cut. My sons' team played him in a tournament in Utah County over the Summer and Thurl's son was underwhelming.

Re: Recruiting for 2022.
I'm willing to bet there are many BYU boosters willing to throw some money at these athletes. I believe NIL will richly benefit BYU. Pretty sad that funding their vanities is more important than other more important ventures. It is their money though. They can spend as they please.

Re: Recruiting for 2022.
You are absolutely correct. There is a lot of money at BYO with Boosters' businesses etc. While it pains me to say it, BYU in football and basketball are going to be a very large force to be reckoned with going forward with NLI.NVAggie wrote: ↑November 8th, 2021, 1:00 pmI'm willing to bet there are many BYU boosters willing to throw some money at these athletes. Re: Recruiting for 2022.
I thought they had rules against using NIL for recruiting or the University being involved in the NIL deals.
I think the NIL deals are probably a good thing, but there should be some better guidelines. This is getting out of hand.
Let the athletes get in campus before being contacted for NIL. And don't let the universities be involved to use them to recruit.

Re: Recruiting for 2022.
It was guaranteed to get out of hand the moment it was announced. Angles for abuse were bound to pop up as soon as coaches and donors started talking about it.
