Re: Neemy pick 39!
Giving someone #88 doesn't exude a lot of confidence he'll make the team.

I'm pretty sure players pick their numbers.

Re: Neemy pick 39!
Agreed. There is no chance that they would just be like "We have 88 lying around, so I guess that is your number". This isn't high school. It's also not spring training baseball where there are 30 non-roster invitees on top of the 40 man roster so most numbers will be above 29.
I wouldn't be surprised to see Queta spend time the G-League- but by no means should being the G-League be considered being "cut". I would interpret it as the G League is better for his development more than "he wasn't good enough".

Re: Neemy pick 39!
Pretty sure Neemi chose #88. If he didn't then about 11M Portugese fans just ordered a #88 Queta jersey they will be stuck with.
Re: Neemy pick 39!
Not sure if Neemy follows motogp, but that's the same number that Miguel Oliveira uses, and he's like a national hero in Portugal atm, could just be a coincidence also.

Re: Neemy pick 39!
In the press conference he said that he chose the number.
I predicted he wouldn't be a first rounder. I think this is simply because he played at Utah State and not a P5 school, not because he didn't deserve to be drafted higher.
I think he's going to do well for the Kings this season and be an important role player off the bench. I'm really excited for him. I think he has the potential to be a star in the league.

Re: Neemy pick 39!
I'm bullish on Neemy as well and believe he will surprise everyone in the summer leauge. I also thought he'd sneak into the first round but nine picks short isn't too far off. Apparently Sacrmaneto was genuinely surprised he was still available and immediately submitted their card when 39 came up.AggieFBObsession wrote: ↑July 31st, 2021, 10:00 pmIn the press conference he said that he chose the number.

Re: Neemy pick 39!
Yes - he said in the press conference he picked #88 because #8 was the first number he ever wore as a basketball player (I'm assuming #8 wasn't available?). I made the comment thinking of the low draft picks on Major League Spring Training that really have no chance of making the big league club - these were the guys they would give jerseys in the 60s, 70s, 80s or 90s to.AggieFBObsession wrote: ↑July 31st, 2021, 10:00 pmIn the press conference he said that he chose the number.

It used to be you would never see a number higher than 55 in basketball. And you would never see the second digit higher than 5 on a jersey number that was two digits (e.g. - there was no #29 or #37, etc.). This way is was easier for the ref to convey to the official scorer who an infraction was on with one hand. When the foul was called on #34, the ref could use one hand to flash three fingers and then four fingers. It gets cumbersome using both hands to flash a two digit number.
I've also noticed the balls do not have stitching anymore. The game has sure changed. I just don't know if I can keep up with all of this change.

Re: Neemy pick 39!
Mo Harkless has no. 8 - but may not return to Sacramento. So Nemi could possibly get no. 8 before the season starts if he wants it.

Re: Neemy pick 39!
The rule book for High School and College used to preclude using any digit over 5, or the numbers 1 or 2 standalone. Ostensibly, this was so referees could signal who committed a foul. (only 5 fingers), and so the number would not be confused with the signal for a score, (1 or 2 points).
The NBA never cared.
I don't know if the rule still exists in HS or College, but you rarely (maybe never) see digits higher than 5 so it may. Using 1 or 2 standalone has obviously been allowed for some time now.

Re: Neemy pick 39!
Holmes, Kardashian, Len, Queta to start the season.
Queta will move up on that roster and Holmes will be spending more time at the 4 toward the end.

Re: Neemy pick 39!
I hadn't heard that. The way everyone is flying around the court I'd be surprised to see him in.
