Re: Myrtle Beach ... again
I'm cool with that. Didn't get to play in it last time and there are some good teams on there.

Re: Myrtle Beach ... again
Based on proximity, there will be BIG contingents of fans there from ECU, Davidson, and ODU. Wonder how the Aggie faithful will turn out? Get that Washington D.C. USU Alumni Association Chapter fired up!!

Re: Myrtle Beach ... again
I live in the DC area and was planning on attending this past year before they said "no fans". Ironically, I will be in Texas for training during the start of this tournament so I likely will not be able to attend again this year.

That's better. I just hope we get to play them one way or another.

Re: Myrtle Beach ... again
I've already signed up to get notices when the schedule is announced and hope to make it down. Fortunately, our rinky-dink airport in Harrisburg has direct flights down to Myrtle Beach and usually for cheap. Just need to convince my better half that it is worth the vacation days and expense. She did agree to taking two of our kids to the second SJSU game back in December when we were in Utah, so there is hope.

Didn't we scare him off? I don't remember anything from him when they beat us in a bowl game. He could of.....but somehow I missed it.

Maybe he died (I mean, I hope not, but what else could be holding him back from his calling in life?). Anyone following up on the obituaries down in Las Cruces? Wasn't his true identity discovered by some on this board?

He teaches and coaches football at a high school in New Mexico. Maybe his job as a teacher prohibits him from acting inappropriate on the internet.flying_scotsman2.0 wrote: ↑May 19th, 2021, 5:10 pmMaybe he died (I mean, I hope not, but what else could be holding him back from his calling in life?). Re: Myrtle Beach ... again
If we draw Penn, it would be a battle of the coach and team that was the 135th 16 seed to be unsuccessful trying to beat a 1, against the coach that would later that night become the first 16 seed to beat a 1!

Re: Myrtle Beach ... again
Davidson and New Mexico State are interesting names to me. Penn ain’t bad. The rest are “meh.OrangeCountyAggie wrote: ↑May 19th, 2021, 6:42 pmMeh. Besides us, Oklahoma is the only quality name in that group.
It bothers me a little that we were listed after Davidson by Rothstein. As a program, we are “more” than a Davidson.
Re: Myrtle Beach ... again
Didn't USU have a game scheduled at Davidson last season....which was wiped out by pandemic? I had thought that visit was slated (maybe was a home-and-home?)ineptimusprime wrote: ↑May 19th, 2021, 7:40 pmDavidson and New Mexico State are interesting names to me. Penn ain’t bad. Re: Myrtle Beach ... again
To me it is a solid tournament. It will be a really good test against some quality teams on a neutral floor. There are a lot of unknowns with this team and the new coaching staff. It for sure is not a marquee tournament, but a solid one none the less.
Re: Myrtle Beach ... again
One good thing about this event in comparison to others:
It will be held in a legitimate arena. A smaller capacity arena, yes, on the campus of Coastal Carolina University in Conway. But, still, an "arena" - with a permanent floor and accoutrements - as contrasting with the events hosted at some resort, where they just slap down the basketball floor over the carpet of some ballroom, there, with metal bleachers set up surrounding for spectators. I see fans sitting in real, solid chairs for this one.

Re: Myrtle Beach ... again
I do know that Odom and UMBC's monumental win was played in Charlotte, North Carolina. I did know that the 1 seed that Penn earlier in the day was unsuccessful against was Kansas, but had to look up that the game was in Wichita, Kansas.dogie wrote: ↑May 19th, 2021, 7:26 pmBut do you know where those games were played?GameFAQSAggie wrote: ↑May 19th, 2021, 7:09 pmIf we draw Penn, it would be a battle of the coach and team that was the 135th 16 seed to be unsuccessful trying to beat a 1, against the coach that would later that night become the first 16 seed to beat a 1!
With how much I had been cheering for the 16 seeds prior to UMBC's breakthrough, I can recap some of the close calls in 1/16 matchups from memory.

Re: Myrtle Beach ... again
In spite of the fact that several people are less than happy about the field, `a case can be made that it doesn't deserve the turned up noses.
The following numbers come from Ken Pom's year-end stats:
Average of MBC teams: 118.75
Average of MWC teams: 163.09
Average of MBC teams without USU (sort of a SOS): 127.125
Average of MWC teams without USU (sort of a SOS): 174.8
Number of MBC teams below 155 (admittedly cherry-picked): 1 (ODU - 219)
Number of MWC teams below 155: 6
Top 100 MWC teams 5
Top 100 MBC teams: 3
So it may not be a star-studded Maui Invitational, but (at least using last year's numbers) it is on average a step above the MWC as a whole.
Side note:
Last year the MWC had 3 bad teams - 294, 332 and 333.
If Miles can get his good looking recruits to gel, most MWC teams get two better SOS games.
If Pitino can get his recruits to gel as well, most MWC teams get four better SOS games.
Not sure what to expect at AFA, but it would be cool if they, in addition, could get most MWC six better SOS games.

Re: Myrtle Beach ... again
Yeah Davidson and (gasp!) NMSU are both solid basketball programs that are regularly in the NCAA tournament. NMSU really should have beat final four Auburn two years ago in the first round. Lost by 1 because of missed free throws.ineptimusprime wrote: ↑May 19th, 2021, 7:40 pmDavidson and New Mexico State are interesting names to me. Penn ain’t bad. Re: Myrtle Beach ... again
Wilmington NC has direct flights from DC but it’s about an hour and a half from myrtle beach. Wilmington is better if you’re flying in from the east as you’re likely to have direct flights.
For non DC people - Both are small airports. Expect loooong waits if you’re connecting in. On most airlines they’ll have a flight or two a day from the nearby hub into myrtle beach - but you’ll probably have a lesser wait flying into Wilmington.
I’ll probably fly American and if I connect into Charlotte- and you want to hang out at the admirals or centurion lounge- I’ll get you a beer and food.
(Cuz it’s free in the lounge)

Re: Myrtle Beach ... again
Already talking to my wife about making this trip. Aggie Basketball, Golf, Ocean. What is not to like?
Re: Myrtle Beach ... again
From "local intelligence" I can affirm this suggestion (I live in Wilmington). With the University (UNC-W) and corporate profile, Wilmington NC has solid airline connections, at least one daily non-stop arrival from DC, also Chicago, Dallas, Laguardia, Philly. So, that is a useful bit of information if it makes the travel easier for anyone. Maybe more like an hour & 45 minutes considering traffic (but that depends on who's driving ) to Myrtle and points of interest there.Imakeitrain wrote: ↑May 20th, 2021, 6:53 pmWilmington NC has direct flights from DC but it’s about an hour and a half from myrtle beach. Jumping off from Charlotte to regional airports is a crime and a misery.
You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.
