I think the media tends to base their preseason guesses upon the previous season results..

If that holds true you will picked 2nd..
I have high hopes for this season (as per the norm before we actually begin), but I'm trying to temper my natural zeal. I think 2nd is high for us this season. Nevada and Colorado are going to be good. SDSU is always good. I think #4 is a more natural place for us until gameplay shows otherwise.
I think you are pretty spot on with the pick about being 4th. This conference is deep this year, like real deep. However, I mimic what the rest of the forum is saying about hype about athletics this year. Despite the dumpster fire that was football last year and the gutting of our basketball program, I am going to still be the first one in line for opener in football and basketball. At the risk of knowing what happens every season when an aggie fan says this, I am hopeful.

Everything I have heard about Coach Odom and his staff screams that they are hungry and want to make a statement. The remaining seniors we have (bean, brock) have a chip on their shoulder and also something to prove. Hope is for the up and up.
I wouldn't call us deep, but I'd say that the traditional top performers all look good this year, though Boise is a bit underwhelming imo (I'm not as high on them as others, but we'll see). New Mexico and UNLV are always wild cards, and I hope they can live up to their potential, but I'm not holding my breath. Air Force and SJSU will perform poorly, as per the norm. Then Fresno and Wyoming will have moments where they shine and upset the top teams, but won't bust into the top.

Kind of a typical year, I think, as far as the spread across the conference.
I do expect the bottom of the conference to improve over the next couple years. Having Joe Scott back at the helm will help the Zoomies and folks will sure notice huge improvements at San Jose with Tim Miles in charge. Those two programs have drug down the conference RPI for years but I expect an improvement in that area with the coaching changes at those two programs.

SDSU and everybody else..I have no idea who will rise or fall but the Aztecs appear formidable..

Every team has new faces and good players who have left..What players have done in high school or with their previous team or conference is kind of irrelevant. All that really matters is how the pieces fit now. Everybody is optimistic in July but we are all just guessing at this point..

(1) CSU
(2) Nevada
(3) SDSU
(4) USU

Giving CSU and Nevada the nod based on returning players. SDSU certainly has the potential to be really good, but it’ll depend on how things gel with their transfers.

USU has an interesting mix of returning players and transfers. Will also depend on gelling. USU’s ceiling is probably 2nd, and floor is probably 5th, IMO. We have too many experienced guys on the roster that are used to being good players on winning teams for us to be any worse than 5th.

Looks like we might be about there. 11 non-conference games are there, assuming we play St. Mary’s and Dixie St at home as believed.

How many non-con games are typically played?

It feels like there needs to be a game between Richmond and the Myrtle Beach, and it sort of makes sense to stay out on the east coast. Maybe a two-for-one with UMBC starting out there this year?

My impressions:

(1) Very balanced schedule overall.
(2) Lots of great neutral site games, which I know some hate.
(3) Very weak home schedule with the exception of St. Mary’s. Not sure about how good Arlington is supposed to be, and the UC schools at least usually have a pulse. I’d prefer an ISU or SUU home game to New Orleans or UC-Davis, because those at least have a bit of local intrigue.

Revenge game against UT-Arlington. They beat the Aggies three times in Stew's final year. A wound that hasn't healed.

His final Wac year, but your point stands. It still eats at me everyday that we let UT Arlington win 3x including a win in Logan. Gavrilo princip who assassinated Archduke Franz Ferdinand which set off the chain of events leading to the First World War said "I wanted to take revenge and I regret nothing."

Let's go out and destroy UT Arlington and have zero regret doing it!

It shows UC Irvine on the schedule, but no date, any word on if that is confirmed or not? Solid OOC schedule. I really hope we can get the ST. Mary's game at home on Saturday night with school in session. That would be a really great environment. Home slate is not that great, but getting teams to Logan is always going to be tough. Really solid neutral site games.

Great feature on RJ in the DNews. Worth a read!
Seems to be acclimating well to Logan. Likes Mo’ Betta’s.

Most interesting tidbit is that he hasn’t ruled out staying for two years. Sweet!

That was well written. Happy to have RJ on the team. To have him and Rylan to replace worster and Anthony was about as good of replacements as we could ask for. So excited for this team. A lot of unknowns but I feel a quiet confidence from this team.

Good to hear. I was really hoping RJ would become an Aggie. Happy it happened and excited to see what he does next season.

When it's all said and done, i wouldn't be surprised to see BYU in the PAC or Big 10, or some mega conference that is composed of teams from those conferences.

Every night I lie awake for hours, with boiling rage seething through my veins as I remember the way UT Arlington beat us for the third time that year, ending our season while their fans cheered them on. I swore not to rest until we had defeated UT Arlington. It turned out be a rash vow and the last decade of unmitigated and futile rage has reduced me to a shell of what I once was.

I have longed for the day when this injustice would be righted and peace could return to my soul. Darn those Mavericks!

So if the owner of Eggs in the City (great place) can throw some money at a U of U athlete, shouldn't the owner of Herm's (also great) be able to throw some money at a USU athlete? (Yes, I saw the post that they're the same person. :) )

As far as Marco goes...I hope he plays himself into the NBA and his team doesn't win a single game this season.

Believed to be the first Aggie basketball player from the U.K......
I am appalled by the Deseret News' lack of respect for Utah State's original UK Basketball player - Adam Thoesberry, er Thoesby.

I had forgotten that UMBC also played in Jamaica a couple years ago. We didn't play them, but I wonder if that's where Odom and Hartwell met.

That’s bananas, man.

We will be starting 4 seniors and a P5 transfer. That sort of experience rarely struggles.

I don’t think we will be the best team in the MW, but I would be relatively shocked if we are not top half of the league.

I view Bean as an amazing complimentary player, not the go to guy. I would love to see him take another step forward and prove me wrong. He’s got a great motor, good athleticism, improved handles, a solid mid range shot, and is very active. If he had a Nate Harris or Tai Wesley post up game or could shoot over 35% from deep, I’d be upset with the #78 ranking.
