Any confirmation about Jones? Is it possible that we picked Thelissen instead of Jones?

Verbal commitment is good - signed is even better. Hope to hear both Rylan and Norbert have signed and are official soon. Image

I'm hoping there is some kind of trick to this equation because I'm stumped.

Hopefully both. There’s quite a few players on the roster we could give the boot to make room for those guys. I think Rylan would be the best scorer on the team day one, and that’s not cause I think Rylan is amazing. We just don’t have a single scorer on the roster.

I thought Dorius wasn’t ever going to take a scholarship because his parents are wealthy and he doesn’t need one. Is that not the case?

I wonder if it's even possible to decline the scholarship once given? One could argue that it's a contribution from a booster (parent in this case), which would raise some questions. That's under the assumption that the scholarship was formally offered and accepted.

I HAD been told that. However, right before the old staff left I HAD been told that Trevin would be put on scholarship. Whether that happened or not, I don't know?

I read an article in the Herald Journal where Odom said we had four scholarships. If that’s true, where’s the extra one coming from? So weird

So coach Smith is getting Utah MWC level recruits while Odom is getting USU PAC-12 level recruits? Awesome.

Is there any chance that 13=13 doesn't necessarily hold true this year due to COVID? Has the NCAA ever announced what (if anything) they're going to do to handle the super senior situation? Or are the high school kids just going to get screwed for a few years due to fewer open spots?

Oh $hit! You may be the winner here my Aggie brother!! We have ONE super senior and he DOES NOT have to count toward the 13=13. Brandon Horvath.

The fact that 22 is having a hard time finding out the answer kind of suggests there is something brewing that they don't want to go public with yet.

The little internet sleuthing I did send to indicate that super seniors who transfer into a program will still count against them 13 scholarship limit. So Horvath still counts as one of them 13.

Yes. Were this not the case, there’d be abuses. A P5 school (or other school that could afford it) could build a super team by taking a bunch of 5th year senior grad transfers and have 5 or so extra players that wouldn’t count against the 13.

Teams could load up on these 5th year seniors if they could transfer without counting against the scholarship limit.

Something else is afoot. Someone we were expecting isn’t coming, someone is transferring, or Jones isn’t coming (i.e. coaches chose Thelissen over Jones)

One other possibility — perhaps Thelissen isn’t joining the team this coming season, but the season after instead. I believe this was the arrangement he had with Utah, but never showed up.

Thelissen didn't go to Utah because he wasn't allowed to travel there because of covid. He also took all his classes online and was on scholarship for the utes last year. He wasn't able to play this year per NCAA rules and was to be eligible in 21-22. I don't think there is anything up with Jones not saying anything yet as I am positive Odom is smart enough to know exactly how many players we can and can't have. Rylan only entered the portal yesterday, no worries.

Thing is, Odom told the HJ reporter earlier this week we had four schollies and had filled three. Unless he was somehow mistaken, there is: (1) another shoe to drop opening a scholarship up; (2) Jones and/or Thelissen is not on scholarship this next season; or (3) Jones isn’t coming.

Or Dorious isn’t on scholarship.. Is this still a possibility? What’s the full process of becoming a scholarship player, transitioning from walk-on or other payment type? Is there an official signing period for that to happen? Has that happened? Maybe Dorious realized it would help the team by staying how he was and didn’t sign? Just wondering..

If Dorius is on an accademic scholarship their would be no reason to give him an athletic scholarship. I remember when David Collete was here he was on an academic scholarship that had more benefits with less restrictions than a athletic scholarship. Once you receive an athletic scholarship you can't go back to an academic

There are not many academic scholarships that include R&B, books and full cost of attendance stipend like athletic scholarships do.

Athletic scholarships are about the best available.
